Yes, this is Wake 'verse again. (I should probably post that eventually, huh?) All you need to know is that they're staying together and Mephiles is meant to be a touch OOC. Makes more sense in context.
Mephiles opened his eyes, deeply unsettled. He'd had a dream, one that was already fading from memory, but a disturbing one nonetheless. It left him with a lingering sense of worry, so he decided to check on his roommates. He slipped out of bed and phased through the door to bypass the squeaky hinges.
Once in the hall, he crept over to Silver's room. Standing by the door for several seconds yielded no sound, so he phased partway through the door. Silver was sleeping soundly, curled in a ball like always. Mephiles noticed a small smile on his face and allowed a smile of his own before ducking out of the room.
Sonic's room was equally silent. When he poked his head in, he observed that Sonic was invisible from there, replaced by a hedgehog-shaped blanket lump on the bed. He resisted the urge to laugh in case it would wake him and slipped away.
Shadow's room seemed still, but Mephiles knew from experience how deceptive that could be. So he picked a corner and phased his head through the wall just enough to see. Sure enough, Shadow sat reading in his favorite chair. The hedgehog seemed too engrossed in his book to notice his visitor, to Mephiles' relief. He quickly phased back out and turned back toward his room.
He was stopped by a door opening and a hand on his arm. Shadow didn't say a word, only tugged him into his room and closed the door. Mephiles was pushed to sit on the bed, a stern look warning him to stay put before Shadow returned to his seat and picked his book up once more.
Mephiles, already used to strange behavior in his companions, didn't question this action too closely. He leaned against the headboard and watched Shadow while waiting for an explanation. It didn't take too long. Shadow had almost finished the book to begin with and soon closed it.
Mephiles blinked, but didn't protest, when he was pushed back a little so Shadow could stand in front of him and press their foreheads together. "We're all fine. Nothing has happened. And nothing will happen."
Mephiles' eyes widened with understanding. That explained Shadow's strange behavior. He'd been giving him a chance to reassure himself. He felt a wave of gratitude, even if it was a small gesture compared to some of Silver's or even Sonic's attempts at helping him. Mephiles allowed a slight smile. "Thank you."
Shadow looked surprised for a moment before his expression softened. He nodded and moved aside, giving Mephiles his mobility back before rolling over to lay on his pillow. He opened an eye when Mephiles didn't move and gave him a pointed look.
Mephiles raised his hands in surrender and, after a few glances between Shadow and the door, laid down at his side. Shadow pulled a sheet over the both of them and they both went to sleep.
In the morning, Mephiles would phase through their shared wall, and they'd both go downstairs separately as though nothing had happened. But for the rest of the night, neither of them had any nightmares.
