Why does he push me away? Why won't he open his heart to me? I understand that his best friend has died, but does he have to keep his heart closed to those around him? And I know it's not only me he distances himself from, but Frau, Castor and Labrador as well. But for me, it's almost like he has a grudge against me.

I see him walking quietly down a corridor and take a chance. "Teito!"

"What do you want Hakuren?" He asks me coldly, turning away. I hurry after him; he's not getting away this time.

"I want the truth Teito, that's what I want," I reply and I see his shoulders tense.

"The truth about what?"

"Why you continue to close yourself off from others, I say honestly. Teito stops walking abruptly, his eyes darkening. He carefully places Mikage on his shoulder before replying.

"I can't let anyone else be hurt because of me," he says softly and my heart aches for him.

"Teito… did you ever consider that you might be one of our important people? That we would want to protect you?" I ask and he shakes his head, sadness filling his jade eyes.

"I don't anyone to think of me like that."

"Regardless of what you want, the truth is Teito that people do care about you."

"I don't want them to! I don't want you to," Teito says angrily and I narrow my eyes at him.

"As I said, regardless of what you want, people continue to care about you. And despite your selfish wish for people to ignore you, because yes Teito, it is selfish," I say as he opens his mouth to defend himself. He closes his mouth and allows me to continue. "People do care about you. And when you push them away, did you realise that you were hurting them yourself?" I release my pent-up frustration and Teito's eyes widen.

"I'm…hurting you?" His tone is one of pure misery, and there is a sharp pull in my chest to hold him close and comfort him. I resist the urge and continue to gaze levelly at Teito.

"Yes, but only because you push us away," I confirm softly and Teito turns away from me, bowing his head.

"Hakuren… I'm sorry. I will be friend from now on but I don't want to hurt you. So I'll become strong enough to protect you! And then I can truly call you my friend!" Teito exclaims and I raise my brows ever so slightly, amused by his sudden change in mood. I hide my smile as I reply.

"You do that my friend."
