Silent Moments

It was these moments that he treasured the most, the precious few hours of quiet, away from the chaos and noise that consisted of 2170 London. The boy cocked his head at the person sitting across from him, a silhouette clouded in darkness.

The figure shifted suddenly, as if in pain, and hunched over. What first appeared to be a boy in the was in fact a girl, a mop of red hair hid her face from him but he could make out a pair of bright, green eyes studying him.

The boy felt nervous under her gaze and shuffled to his feet, stretching his limbs as he tried to avoid her gaze by peering out of the filthy alleyway.

"Have you got any food?" The boy turned back to the girl who was now standing with the support of the wall, one hand clutching her stomach.

The boy didn't respond at first and glanced at the girl from the corner of his eyes. Now that she was standing up straight he could clearly see the rest of her body.

What he saw wasn't good.

He reached into his pockets and pulled a bread roll that he had stole earlier that day. He debated what he should do for a moment before thrusting the roll into her hands, she needed it more than he did.

The girl thanked him profusely, thank you's spilling out of her mouth when she had swallowed a mouthful.
The boy averted his gaze, he had almost been caught when he stole it and he was desperate for food, but he felt compelled to help her.

"Thank you." The girl repeated yet again, tossing her hair behind her shoulder. "My name's Dani." She said, awkwardly looking at her feet, refusing to meet his gaze.
"Thank you." She repeated.

The boy cleared his throat and held out his hand to her.

"My name's John" He said with a grin, grasping her hand and shaking it.
