The first dance

Disclaimer: I do not own anything except my own mind and even that is disputable.

The simple fact of the matter he concluded as he kicked at the rocks on the ground was that it just wasn't fair. Sighing and sitting down in despondence he simply decided to give up. Why was it always him? Why was he the one that was always left alone and behind? No one liked the outsider that was always in trouble. It just wasn't fair. So he sat there all miserable and frustrated believing that the world was out to get him when he heard laughter. Not laughter from inside where everyone else was hiding from the rain but closer to him, laughter in the rain and that is where he found her.

A girl of no greater age than himself dancing in the rain while laughing in joy wearing the weirdest collection of clothes he had ever seen. She was wearing a purple knee length dress that had patches of fabric and bows in every other colour in the rainbow on it with silver glittering stilettos and her hair tied in piggy tails with gold bells attached to bronze ribbons. No makeup, just a fairly average girl dressed eccentrically and dancing in the rain. He could not help but laugh which caused the girl to spin around and stare at him and for a second he thought he was going to get into trouble but instead she merely smiled and waved him over.

Now this was new he thought to himself as he walked slowly over to her. He smiled slightly as she resumed dancing and hesitantly started dancing with her. She didn't say a word she just danced with him and that in his eyes was just what he needed. He danced with her til the bell went and summoned him back into the confines of a classroom and boredom and misery. His face must have shown his disappointment as the girl unlopped one of her hair ties and tied it around his wrist before skipping off. He couldn't help but smile as he looked at the tarnished golden bell now sitting on his wrist and trudged to class. Maybe being looked out of the school in the rain wasn't such a punishment after all?
