UNEXPECTED WORDS

----------------------

"Morning, Su-san!"
Tino greeted his partner with a big smile on his pale face. "Morn'n" was the –as usual- short answer. Berwald sat at the kitchen table, reading a newspaper, and his glasses had slid down a bit on his nose. Tino waited patiently. Very patiently. The seconds ticked by, but Berwald said nothing more. The Finn didn't want to say anything like 'do you know what day it is today' or anything like that, it would just sound stupid. But had he forgotten…? No, he couldn't have!
"'s someth'ng the matt'r?" Berwald had looked up from his newspaper and looked at Tino with a raised eyebrow. "N-no, nothing at all" He still didn't want to say anything. Tino sighed and sat down, trying to enjoy his breakfast. But he couldn't. It was childish and dumb, but had Berwald really forgotten about his birthday?

After the quiet breakfast Tino decided to take a walk. He didn't go so far until he heard a voice calling him from behind. "Finland, Finland!" Tino spun around and saw England standing there with a little package in his left hand. It was blue, with a white cord around it, tied to a little ribbon. It looked really nice. "Happy birthday, Finland!" England said as he walked up to Tino, stretching out the hand holding the little present. The package felt soft as he took it, and he forced a smile to his face, hoping it didn't look so fake. "Thank you, England!" Tino was having a hard time holding up the smile, and he really hoped that England would go away. "Well then, I'd better leave. Later!" And he ran off. Tino stood on the sidewalk and looked after him until he disappeared behind some trees.

The day kept on like this. He got presents and flowers from everyone, even people he didn't know so well yet. So, in the afternoon poor Tino was carrying around all kinds of things in his arms. But he didn't enjoy it. All he could think of was Berwald, and that he didn't know. He wanted him to know, not for the presents or flowers. He just wanted Berwald to know.

After a while, he decided to go home. He couldn't do anything else. It took a while walking home carrying all the things, but eventually he got there. He managed to open the front door and walked into the small hallway, the hallway filled with memories, like the rest of the house. He kicked of his shoes, not bothering to place them nicely beside the rest of them.

"Su-san, I'm ho—" Tino's sentence was interrupted by Berwald – pressing his lips against Tino's. Little Tino blinked and tried to unsuccessful connect fact with fact, as Berwald broke the kiss, bowing his head down to rest it against Tino's neck. And he mumbled the words that Tino's been longing for since early this morning. "Happy birthday, Tino…" Tino closed his eyes and smiled, it was all he wanted to hear. But the two words that spread the joy in Tino's body was soon followed by three more, three he really didn't expect.

"I love you"
