Chapter one
Everything is Never What it Seams
"I can't believe you get to interview them!" My Jonas obsessed friend yells from the other end.
I laugh. "Micah, breath!"
"I am! You better get pictures and an autograph. Oh! That's a waste just have them call me…" I instantly zone her out.
I watch extra carefully as I drive around a death bend. It seems like every car crash we've had in the past month seemed to be on this bend. As I start turning the bend I drive right into fog. I squint to see harder. All of a sudden out of nowhere a man appears in the middle of the road and puts his hand out as if to stop me. I step on the breaks, but not soon enough. I close my eyes, waiting for the sound of a body hitting the car. Nothing. I open my eyes and look behind me. I drove right through him!
I pull over and get out of the car. The guy isn't there anymore. I walk over to where he was standing. Once I realize Micah was yelling my name I slowly say, "Hey, I got to go." and shut the phone without so much as a goodbye.
When I hear a car coming I dart to a bush on the side of the road. I don't want anyone I know seeing me. It would raise suspicion and I don't want to get close to letting the whole world know my secret. "You better watch it. They're going to get it." I spin around and come face to face with the speaker.
"Why are you here? I can help you." I say, holding my breath.
The guy just throws his head back and laughs. I take this time to get a good look at him. He has bloody cuts going down his arms and legs. We he looks back at me I can see he has a black eye and a cut at his temple. "You can't help me." He whispers.
"Who are you?" I finally inhale and exhale.
"None of your concern!" He shouts. " Something bad is going to happen. You better watch out." He starts to fade like he was some sick holographic prank. "I don't have much time, but just remember watch who you get close to. You friends will be close, but your enemies will be closer."
I'm so shocked I can't blink and so much as say something other than the normal routine. " You don't belong here. Do you see the light?"
He just smirks and moves close, I can feel his breath on my face. " I can come and go as I please." In a blink he's gone.
I stand up and look every which way. "How could someone fake this?" I ask myself even though I know it's all very real.
I run to the nearest tree just in case. I scan every inch of the bark and take a good look at the leaves. No sign of any camera or holographic projector. As I make a hastily getaway back to my car I whip out my phone and start dialing.
"Micah, we got a problem."
