A/N: After playing through the initial route for Motochika on Sengoku Basara I've had a lot of fic ideas for him killing Ieyasu. The majority are in the form of drabbles although I've tried to make them into more of a fanfiction kind of style. Anyways this takes place after Motochika kills Ieyasu wen he's fooled by Mouri to believe Ieyasu attacked Shikoku.
"It was all him… Motonari. He played me for a fool and it worked. I should've known better… Why did I ever trust such an eel?" The distress of a certain captain could be felt from miles around as his low voice fell only upon his own ears. Everyone had been forced away from him and he now sat on a rock at the seashore. With anchor embedded into the sand, it held sturdy as the waves soaked the man. He looked to the sky as if an answer would come from the moon and stars.
Yet nothing in the world was ever going to be bringing him back.
Tokugawa Ieyasu…
He was gone forever.
And the man who he trusted most
Was the one who ended his life.
With no answer from the moon nor the stars, Motochika Chosukabe could not even fathom a way to clear his guilty conscious. "Ieyasu… My dear friend… How could I be so blind? Why…" Rage began to build up within the pirate as the grip on the end of the his anchor tightened and he pulled it from the ground and whipped it into the cliff face beside him. "Why didn't you stop me?! Why didn't you tell me I was making a mistake?! Did you feel sorry for me?!"
The anchor dropped onto the sand as water washed over the metal. "Or did you know I would not listen…?" His stubbornness proved to be his downfall- or rather, the downfall of his precious friend. "I failed you… Yet even in your final moments you held our bond strong. But why? Why! Tokugawa Ieyasu- why!" His words were screamed into the sky with such despair that the entire country would have trouble sleeping without a doubt. They burdened the weight of his actions of their shoulders as well- their hearts bled for their beloved captain.
"Did you want me to feel like I had gotten vengeance? Even in your final moments you could find the strength to smile to me as if nothing happened. You held a hand out to me for one last contact with me…" A horrible feeling a dread pumped throughout the Demon of the Sea as he could feel tears threatening to push through to the surface. "And I turned away. I turned my blade and back on my friend. It seems you were the one who paid for my recklessness."
"Dammit all!" Motochika cried aloud as he collapsed to his knees in the freezing water of the ocean. "I should have known! When you protested and were surprised I had come for your head… I should have known you'd never lie. You were too good of a man." A wetness hit his face and for a moment, Motochika blamed it on the sea that lay before him. However- as the water streamed down his cheeks- he found the true culprit.
A short laugh came out almost like a cough. "Tears? I haven't cried since I was a young lad… But I suppose I never had much of a reason to. Killing your best friend… Now that seems like a damn good reason to cry." He let his head hang low and the water lapped at the ends of his hair.
"Forgive me, Ieyasu…" Tears dripped into the ocean and his sorrow became part of miles and miles of the sorrows of others. "I will not let the memory of you die with those who knew you. I shall share the story of the land-lover. The man who valued nothing more than peace and the bonds he shared with others. The best friend of Motochika Chosukabe."
I won't let anyone forget you.
And I won't let anyone forgive me.
