Disclaimer: I don't own Monk or Leland or Trudy or Karen

Monk sat in the hospital waiting room. His heart was beating in his throat. Leland sat down next to his friend who was shaking uncontrollably.

"Monk," he said, "I want you to listen to me. You're not going to lose her"

Just then one of the doctors came out.

"Captain," the doctor said, "may I speak with you for a moment?"

"Of course," he said, "Monk, I'll be right back"

He followed the doctor out to the other room.

"Here's the deal," the doctor said, "Her stats are back to normal but the explosion damaged her liver and her bone marrow.

"We know from your previous blood test a few months ago that you happen to be an exact match. I know this is out of line for me to ask but-"

"Out of line? This is my best friend's wife we're talking about. It's not out of line at all.

"How soon can it be done?"

"It has to be done within the hour," the doctor told him seriously, "that's why I'm-"

"Set it up, give me the paperwork to sign and I'll be there. I just need to tell Karen about this"

"Do you think she'll let you do it?"

"I don't need her permission first of all and of course she will second of all. I know just what button to push"

As it turned out he didn't need to push any button. Karen was supportive and proud of Leland for doing this. Even when she was almost 9 months pregnant with her 3rd child and had a 4-year-old son and an 8-year-old daughter to care for she was understanding and supportive.

An hour later he was shaved, robed and put into surgery. He knew he would come out of it. He wasn't worried about that. When he woke up the doctor was standing over him smiling.

"Captain," the doctor said, "if it weren't for you your friend would be dead but thanks to you she's going to make it through just fine.

Leland was in a lot of pain from the surgery. He didn't care though. He knew it was worth it.

"Oh and just one more thing," the doctor said, "You have a new son"
