pen-i-tence n.
The condition or quality of being penitent; regret for wrongdoing.

A stone. That's all that is left from decades of horror. A stone and memories. And memories last a long time in the minds of humans. Far longer than the stone what would turn to dust before they are ever forgotten, even when you try to forget.

Did you know I tried to forget you for a while? Forget everything we had? I tried to deny what we did and what we are--were. I wanted to forget everything so there would be no need for penitence. No need for forgiveness.

I know that you absolved me of all sins when you stepped on that field for the last time. I know, but it doesn't make it hurt less, that you forgive me, that makes it hurt worse. I know I told you that if you stepped upon that battlefield, I would kill you, love or not. And you understood. You nodded and said you understood. I had thought that meant you wouldn't fight. I thought that meant you would stop with all the 'purity of blood' ideals, you were a half blood like me, but you didn't.

I killed you on that battlefield. It was me who said those fateful words. Avada Kedavra. Two words and now your gone. All that is left is a stone, a tribute to your defeat, and my memories of us.

A stone and some memories.

I'm so sorry Tom.

A/N: *dances* This is my first drabble and I didn't go under or over on the word count. The storyline isn't that great but I did work in the word.
