The Doctor turned over in his bed. He hadn't slept much and now it was nearly morning. He wondered if he should give up trying and get up. He couldn't seem to slow down his thoughts enough to sleep, so maybe it wasn't worth laying here any longer.
His thoughts drifted back to the events of yesterday, the trip to the library. She had kept him up all night - the mysterious woman whom he had found and lost in a matter of hours, yet who had a whole lifetime of memories of him. He barely knew anything about her, but she seemed to know everything about him.
She had known his name. It had been centuries since he had heard it on another's lips, yet here was this stranger whispering it with a passion and love that had left him breathless. It was an intimacy he had never expected to feel again.
He had contemplated telling Rose, dreamed of hearing her whisper his name. But he never had. Even Rose had never gotten that piece of him. So who was this woman, this archaeologist, who had it, who knew so much about him?
The lights in the room pulsed in annoyance at him. The TARDIS seemed restless. He supposed that she was reflecting his own restlessness, but he couldn't seem to shake the impression that she was annoyed with him as well. Feeling like the ship was annoyed with him was not an unfamiliar sensation, but he still didn't like it.
As he pushed himself out of bed, he shook the thought away. It was silly. A ship, even a TARDIS, couldn't be annoyed. It had to be something he was projecting. He needed a distraction. Maybe a vacation!
Newly invigorated by this idea, the Doctor threw on some clothes and headed out to the main control console.
"Donna could use a vacation, too," he said to himself as he began fiddling with the controls. The trip to the library seemed to have shaken her up as well, although she hadn't spoken much about why. "So, where shall it be? The steam baths of Occula? Perhaps the waterfalls of Risa? Maybe the singing caves of Pellan!"
The console screen scrolled past each of these places and more before stopping on an image of a beautiful building that sparkled like a jewel on a dark landscape.
"Perfect!" the Doctor exclaimed when he noticed it. "A vacation on Midnight!"
Spinning, pulling, and smashing controls, the Doctor sent them on their way to the resort planet for a peaceful rest.
