Prologue

Mitsuri: This is my first 'experiment' in ffX fan fiction. I am a huge Auron fan so well…I want to warn you that this might be considered a stretch and its in the past and stuff and I haven't played in a while so if there are any mistakes tell me okay? Good…on with the story. Oh yeah…some big spoilers later on…read at your own risk.

I stood outside, watching the people scurry along the crowded streets of this holy city. I was unsure of the question of which he had asked me, to guard him on this suicide mission. I turned around, looking Braska in the eyes, unwavering and I knew what this would be. A smile crossed my face and I inspected him even more closely. "Of course I'll go with you, couldn't let you get hurt and all." He smiled and embraced me, his arms engulfing me tightly. "I guess we'd best be going, whydontya go get Auron and we'll leave for Besaid." I nodded, and walked off in search of the ex- monk.

He was waiting outside of the hotel in which we were staying at. Braska had come here to seek the guidance of Maester Mika, to see if he should go and become a summoner. Of course the old bat said yes, saying something about Yevon and such. I didn't believe in it one bit but if it got rid of sin…

He was walking beside me, know what this would entail. His friend, our friend was willing to give up his life to save this miserable planet. We both had an understanding, we both tried to believe what we had been forced fed, that things would be good again. He was a head taller than me, and was better built for a task such as this. I, on the other hand, barely 5'5 and 100 pounds could only cast the simplest spells. Braska had told me that I would grow and do him a great favor of being his guardian.

We left the next day, on our way to a small island that was barely on the map. It had the first of the temples and we didn't have much of a choice but to go in order. I walked behind both Braska and Auron, their pace was far faster than mine, especially in these shoes. But I knew it was for the best, in case a monster attacked from behind. They were talking about something, quiet enough so as I wouldn't be able to hear it. From all that I remember it had always been them talking in front while I was never included.

What an odd bunch we must have looked like, I a small, young girl, Auron, older than I was by about a year and by far the tallest of us all, and Braska, a short young man Auron's age and pudgier than both of us. We had been friends since we were children, which we still are. Headed off to a tiny island with a tiny bit of money must have been quite the sight to the pilgrims going into town.
