AN: Here's another one-shot! This was mostly inspired by the question of how Legolas would react to the death of his wife. I did do some research about it, and here's the finished product! Thank you and enjoy!

Disclaimer: I don't own Legolas or a quote that I put in here (I'll list it at the bottom).

The first light was beginning to break over the horizon, casting pale shards of its glory over the trees. A faint, cool breeze danced through the tops of the trees, gently rocking the leaves. The air was full of warmth, but the feelings of one elf were nothing like the mood of the beautiful morning. He kept his eyes downcast while he walked, with no real emotion showing. His lips parted, and he began whispering to himself, "For an eternity I waited for her, and now another eternity I must spend with my heart whispering her name."

He stopped short, lifting his face. Suddenly weary, he leaned against the tree nearest to him, as if the tree would give him some sort of support. A few breathless moments passed, and the pain on the elf's face lessened. He seemed calmer somehow, which was difficult to imagine, seeing as how he looked so pained earlier.

The elf began murmuring, "Faerdhinen. Her name was Faerdhinen. She was my silent spirit, always there to reassure me, even when the worst came and things seemed hopeless. Every thought of every waking moment is filled with images of her: her strength, her smile, her laugh..." He broke off, his voice trailing.

The air filled with a serene silence, save for the rustling of the leaves in the breeze. The silvery-gold threads of his hair fluttered around the elf's shoulders. The elf slid down the side of the trunk and shifted into a sitting position, resting his head lightly against the strong wood. He still remained silent, but he closed his eyes as his breath came slower and steadier. When he opened his eyes again, he began speaking, but his voice came out low and faint.

"I sang to her often. We would walk under the light of the stars, and she would ask me to sing to her." A faint smile appeared on his lips. "I would hold her to keep her warm. She would rest her head on my shoulder and smile. If there was a breeze, then her soft hair would brush against my cheeks." Subconsciously, the elf raised a hand to his cheek as his eyes grew duller. His spirit was leaving him. "I'll love her to the end of time, and beyond." His voice caught. "All I have now are memories. Even the wind, it seems, echoes with her laughter."

As his eyelids grew heavier, one last smile appeared on his face. "Hannon le, mellon. Thank you for listening." As the elf breathed his last breath, the wind rustled once more. The elf did not stir again.

AN: For those of you who don't know, "Hannon le, mellon" translates to "Thank you, friend."

As for the quote that isn't mine: "For an eternity I waited for her, and now another eternity I must spend with my heart whispering her name." Unfortunately, I don't remember where I found this.
