They had never really known each other. Yes, they had worked together for 7 years, and yes they were as close as two people could ever possibly be, but did they really KNOW each other? Special Agent Dana Scully thought she knew everything there was to know about Fox Mulder.
He was her partner, her best friend, her lover, and the one thing she considered worth living for. She thought she had seen it all, but she forgot the one thing that made Fox Mulder the most wonderful man in the world, his ability to surprise her.
It was now March 2010, and she found herself completely dumbfounded. They had been on the run ever since 2001. Leaving everything behind all for a future with each other, and she would do it all over again just so she could stand there on the back porch and watch him paint a light house. She never knew that Mulder could paint. (or that he had any artistic talent what's so ever)
They bought that light house four years ago, and the paint had finally started to wear off. Scully had noticed a while ago, but she didn't think that Mulder had. Yet here he was on the back porch painting the tiny faded bricks a new shade of blue, looking like he didn't have a care in the world.
Suddenly Mulder turned around and looked straight into her eyes. His entire face erupted in a smile reserved only for her. She felt her heart melt, and her eyes fill involuntarily. She put her hand to her heart, she was well aware, that it beat only for him, to keep it from bursting from her chest. She wasn't worried though for she knew it would only land in his hands.
"Come here Scully." He said with his hand outstretched.
Without hesitation she carefully placed her hand in his, and let him pull her down for a long and lingering kiss. She felt the tears she had tried so hard to hold back come rolling down her face, remembering almost leaving this man just one year ago. As if knowing what she was thinking he brushed her tears away with his thumbs, and kissing the trails they left behind.
"You don't have to be sorry baby. We're here now, and I love you."
"I love you too." She whispered with a growing grin that made his heart ache, and created a longing need to make her pain go away. Little did he know that when she was with him she felt no pain.
Without warning he pulled her into his lap. There they sat taking turns painting the light house, all the while pressing butterfly kisses wherever they could reach. When they were finished she pressed her forehead against his. He smiled and kissed the tip of her nose. Scully put her arms around his neck; knowing she would never let go.
