I just wrote this a few minutes ago.
Silence
Outside, the sun was shining. Birds we just chirping away like they had all the time in the world.
Inside…that was a different story. Inside, the room was silent. No words…not even a tear. Just silence.
Will just sat there in front of his kids absorbing the news. In all his years of teaching, he had nothing left to say. He knew his eyes were red and puffy but that was the least of his worries.
Seconds ago, principle Figgins walked into the class room. Will took one look at his boss and he felt his stomach fall. Regret was written all over his face. The voices of the kids just faded into the background as the principle whispered the news.
"Will…I'm so sorry…" Principle Figgins began sadly. Will swallowed as the rest came out. "Fin Hudson…he was found early Saturday morning…"
Will was sure there was more but he was having a hard time comprehending what was being said. He slowly turned to his class and stumbled to his stool. By now the kids were looking at him oddly.
"Hey, Mr. Shue? Everything ok?" Sam asked. Will couldn't even speak the words. He just looked them and tears began to fall. Mr. Figgins stepped up and cleared his throat.
"Um…I'm sorry to have to tell you this…but…," Mr. Figgins quickly glanced over to Will who was still unable to speak. Mr. Figgins looked back at the kids and took a breath. "Fin Hudson was found in his dorm room early Saturday morning. He is," Mr. Figgins' voice cracked. "He was pronounced dead…"
Tina gasped and grabbed her chest as Wade sat in shocked silence. Artie sat motionless, his face devoid of any colour. Blaine's face twisted in pain as he began to cry. Sam cried as he held Kitty as she wept. Ryder, Marley and Jake held each other as they all cried.
Principle Figgins informed them that there will be counselors available to them and that if needed; they could take the rest of the day off.
Slowly, the kids began to trickle out of the class room. They opted for the day off leaving Will alone in the darkened room.
Will wondered why? Why, in the entire universe, did it have to be Fin?
There was no easy answer.
So Will continued to sit there. There wasn't any song or dance that would make this right.
Nothing but silence…
