He fell in love the day they met,
Mesmerized by her bright blue eyes,
It was a secret that he had kept
Hidden behind a wall of lies.
He wanted to tell her, to let her know
To let his loving words depart,
But he was afraid that she would let him go,
And forever keep him from her heart.
So he locked up his soul with ball and chain,
And he kept up his "just friends" charade.
And yet in his heart, she remained,
Like a song rewound, and always replayed.
A nagging thought kept occurring to him
That some way, somehow, she might feel the same,
And the idea filled his heart to the brim,
And kept him from quitting his treacherous game.
One day he would tell her the love he restrained,
When his courage was maxed and his shoulders were squared,
He would give her the keys to his soul's hassling restraints,
And his heart would be lifted, softened, repaired.
