You look at me and see the boy
Who lives inside the golden world.
"Hello, Potter. Mind if I join you?" Draco Malfoy asked of his archrival.
"Why, Malfoy? So tired of your perfect life that you would deal with Gryffindors for company?" Harry Potter snapped, looking as tired as Draco felt.
But don't believe
That's all there is to see,
Or you'll never know the real me.
"Is that all you think there is to me, Harry?" he asked, though he already knew the answer. The raven-haired boy shook his head.
"I'm sorry, Malfoy. You may be a good person, for all I know. I only know the side you've shown in the past. You're welcome to join us, if you behave yourself."
Draco smiled, though it truly hurt him that Harry didn't trust him, no matter how well justified it was. He was afraid the other boy would never like him, much less return the deep feelings he harbored for the handsome Gryffindor that had been his rival for so long. He wished he could show his true side, the small little boy wanting comfort, but he knew he would have to keep up his façade of strength, for now at least.
He smiles through a thousand tears
And harbors adolescent fears
He dreams of all
That he can never be
He wades in insecurity
And hides himself inside of me.
"Thanks," he said, seating himself gracefully beside Harry. It was the first day back at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and it was that day when he first realized his feelings toward the boy-who-lived. Now just to make sure they were returned.
Don't think I take it all
For granted,
I'm well aware of all I have.
Don't say that I am
Disenchanted,
Please understand…
"I'm sorry for all that has happened between us, Harry. You didn't deserve any of what I put you through," he apologized, trying to make things right between him and the love of his life.
"Friends?" Harry asked, putting out his hand, much like Draco had in their first year. The blonde smiled, and placed his hand gently in the other boy's hand, nodding.
