Chapter 1
I was never the same after what life had hit me with over and over again, I guess you can say I became cold but he made everything better. Made me whole again, afterall being in the FBI is dangerous - Seraphina Rossi.
"Phina!" Shouted Mitchell on a cold august morning, her coat wrapped firmly around her skinny body as she turned to look at the blonde haired, 6 foot guy she called her best friend. She shuddered as she walked back to her colleague who also worked at Battle Creek, Michigan police force.
"What is it Mitch, I have to get back to Amber so make it quick." Seraphina said wrapping her coat more around her body and straghting out her long black hair which was like her fathers. David Rossi of the Behavioural Anaylis Unit in Quantico. She always had a close relationship with her father since she was young but they started to drift away just before her daughter Amberley Carter was born 3 years ago.
"Geez, you are hard to catch up to." Mitch stated as he caught his breath, ruffling his blonde hair and looking at her. His arms tightly drawn over his chest as he looked at the 5,7 foot woman that stood in front of him. She was always the smallest and petite girl in the force but she could beat a criminal's ass before he or she ever tried to touch her. Which is why she was so well liked but feared throughout the whole department, even her own best friend seemed to fear her a little. "Anyway, You forgot your phone," Mitch said handing the phone over to Phina, who was tapping her foot against the wooden side walk impatiently. She sighed in relief as she was wondering where the thing had gotten too as she had walked out of the office but couldn't find it anywhere.
"Thanks Mitch, See you tomorrow," Phina said as she pocketed her phone and started again to walk down the wooden side walk when Mitch called her back.
"Oh and Rossi called you by the way," Mitch said and Seraphina quickly looked down at her phone to see that indeed her father had called her, twice. She groaned before waving at Mitch and carrying on walking down the side way.
Seraphina's POV
I tried to grab my phone out of my pocket while walking down the alleyway while looking back when my phone buzzed and scared the living shit out of me, Looking down I realise it was my father again and I sighed before deciding not to hold it of any longer and answered the call, "Rossi," I said.
"Seraphina, I need your help and expertise?" He asked and I sighed.
"What do you need?" I asked as I walked back to my car, getting in I pushed my key into the ignition and leaned back against the leather seat.
"We've got a case and it has brought the whole team to a confused state. We need a fresh set of eyes and Aaron said he wanted you to take a look," He said and I scoffed.
"Of course he would," I stated solemnly.
"Hey, I'm right here." He said coming onto the call and I let out a chuckle before sighing.
"Fine, I'll come down but I'll have to take Amber with me. She wants to see you dad." I said. I heard him sigh.
"Okay Seraphina." He said and this time it was me to scoff and sigh at the same time.
"Dad, call me Phina. Or I won't hesitate to hurt you," I said laughing and I heard him chuckle on the other end.
"Okay, I'll see you when you get here Phina." He said and I sighed in relief that he is finally calling me by my nickname and not by my full name.
"Amber! Are you ready yet?!" I shouted upstairs for almost the 5th time this morning, I placed my hand through my messy black hair. She is exactly like her father was, when he was still alive late for everything and I had to get them ready.
"Coming momma!" She shouted back at me, I raised my eyebrows at her tone and attitude at me and she was only 3. I was never like that at my age was I? I'll ask Dad when I get there, her little feet came running down the stairs taking me out of my trance and look up to see her ready and dressed her hair pulled neatly back into a bun. She motioned with her arms for me to pick her up, and that's exactly what I did. I picked her up and she wrapped her arms around my neck and her feet around my hips.
I picked up the house keys and our car keys, along with our passports and tickets for the plane. Walking out of the house, I locked the door before walking down the path to our car and putting her in her carseat in the front passenger seat and then getting into the drivers seat. I started to drive to the airport, "Momma, Do you think nonno (Grandad) missed me?" She asked me out of the blue and my head snapped to look at her, I looked at her with a soft look.
"Of course he would've, he's just busy with work bambino (Baby)" I said before carrying on driving to the airport, which we got to in under five minutes. We were just starting to board and we got there in time to board and get to our seats, I handed Amber her book which she was in love with at the moment and listened to my music with one headphone out so I could hear the attendent and Amber if she needed me at any time in the flight.
Which I knew would happen quite regularly to a point where I might get a little mad, but I can't stay mad at her for long. She's just to cute to be mad at for a long time. I sighed before leaning back against the chair and thinking back to the last time I saw my dad and that was when Adam proposed to me, three years ago when I was pregnant with Amber. He died two months ago protecting the country overseas in Iraq, he was a veteranin for the army. We never got married, and now I'm looking after Amber alone which I admit being a single mother is hard but I enjoy every minute with her.
She knows what happened to her father and she knows that he was a hero, Dad also knows that Adam is gone. He was proud that I was with such a good man but he was sad to hear the news that he passed way to soon, he was on 27 and I'm 24. I had Amber when I was 21 and he was a father when he passed but he always knew that Amber would always be proud of him. I was proud of him and that was all he wanted as he told me that is what he wanted in a girlfriend.
"Momma? I want a drink of juice," Stated Amber crossing her arms over her chest violently, now Amber is known to have violent temper tantrums if she doesn't get what she wants but we were so close to landing that I suggested that we waited until we got to grandad's but she is refusing to wait. I sighed before catching one of the attentends and asking her to get some water, she nodded before walking away to go and grab some. Which luckly to us it wasn't that much of a bother to her.
"What do you say to the lady Amber?" I asked and Amber looked up at her before flashing a smile at her and finally using her manners that I taught her for good use.
"Thank you!" She said excitedly before finishing of her water and putting it down. The attentend whom I managed to get the name of to be Jodie took the cup off her and ruffled her hair.
"You're welcome Amber," She said before walking away and Amber started to fall asleep but I woke her back up.
"Hey Bambino, wait till we land then you can get some sleep. Do you want to see nonno?" I asked in italian and she perked up hearing the mention of her grandad, she's always had a soft spot for him as do I. I love him for god sake and I can't stay mad at him for long even though I really want to at points. Mamma left him because of how much effort he put into his work, but I could care less because no sooner later I joined the Battle Creek Police Force. I was becoming like him but I was still there enough for Amber.
We landed right at the time where I was saying to Amber to stay awake, she got really excited that she almost jumped out her seat. Luckly the seatbelt was there to stop her from totally jumping out otherwise that would've been a total disaster and I would blame that on myself. The seatbelt sign got switched off and Amber was immediatly up and out of her seat and ready to go when I grabbed her and pulled her onto my lap. "Wait for other people to go first sweetheart," I said and she grumbled before leaning against me. I let out a chuckle at Amber stubborness, she definetly got that personality trait off of me. I was always stubborn, still am.
I picked her up in my arms and walked to the door, Jodie gave me a warm smile and looked down at Amber before giving her a wave. She smiled before waving back and we walked out of the airplane and into the August sun in Virginia. I sighed before walking down the stairs and over to the baggage area where I saw dad standing at the side waiting for me and Amber, "Hey Amber, why don't you go over to nonno?" I asked putting her down fully on the ground and she nodded before running over to him while I got our luggage, pulling it off the carousel it was on.
I then walked over to my family and Amber was laughing along with my father before he noticed me and smiled at me, I weakly smiled back at him before giving Amber a wide smile. Dad tickled her sides making her screech in laughter before setting her down onto the floor and letting her walk a tiny bit in front of us while he stayed a little back to talk to me.
"I'm sorry for two months ago, I should've been there for you. I just thought you would need a little space." He said and I thought back to the fight we had only 2 months prior to him asking for my help.
"I need you dad! He's gone and Amber and you are the only family I have left!" I shouted at him and he sighed.
"You need space Seraphina!" He shouted back and I withered back.
"Fine," I stated before walking away, while he called after me.
"It's in the past dad, I've forgotten about it. Trust me, if I was still mad you would know about it as I would've declined to come," I said and he nodded before we carried on silently, watching Amber without much intrest in each other at that moment in time. Me and my dad are the spitting image of each other, sometimes people even say we look like twins but we're not. I'm just similar to him, It was I guess a considence that I got most of my looks of my dad and some of my mother.
