Annabeth

I ran out of the class. Running down the empty corridor. Why did people have to be so cruel? I thought to myself. I hugged my books closer to my chest and quickened my pace. I just wanted to cry. I wanted to cry and fall asleep and never wake up. No one would care anyway, not even my dad or my bitch of a step-mum.

"No one" I accidentally said aloud.

I carried on running, passing classrooms and the odd student bunking off their lessons. They didn't notice me. No one did. I ran as quick my legs would carry me until suddenly I felt something hard hit me.

BANG

My books flew in all different directions and I fell hard on the floor. As if this day couldn't get any worse

"Hey watch where you're going man" I heard a voice say above me.

Frantically I tried to gather my books as quick as I could but stupidly, I looked right at the guy I ran into. His expression changed, he became tense and he looked worried. That's when I remembered. Annabeth, you must look like a mess I thought remembering my tear-streaked face. Crap. I cursed inwardly. The one day I wear mascara.

"Hey, are you okay?" He said putting out an arm to touch me. I flinched at the action and stepped back. I didn't mean to of course but after years of well... let's just say you get used to it. He stepped back too, I'm guessing out of politeness which I was thankful for.

"Sorry I didn't mean to scare you um wait a minute you're Annabeth right?"

"Y-yeah, how did you know my name" I stammered awkwardly.

"Oh um..." He paused scratching the back of his neck "You're in most of my classes." He spoke, blushing.

"You sit at the back, scribbling down notes while you know..."

Of course I knew. I knew what my classmates did while they thought I wasn't looking. The way they would whisper about me and throw things at me. I knew about the names they would call me. I pretended not to notice but I did. I noticed everything.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when the guy standing in front of me spoke.

"I'm sorry for not standing up for you, I- I should've helped you."

That's when I noticed where he was looking. My arms. You could see all of my bruises and scratches.

"It's uh it's fine." I replied hiding my arm behind my back.

"No it's not I was too selfish to think about anyone but myself, I'm sorry."

Silence

"Look I totally get it if you don't want to, but if you wanted we could uh go get milkshakes together?"

I looked at him surprised and confused, no one had ever asked me to go anywhere with them.

"Uh um yeah, I'd like that." I said back with a small smile.

"Great!" He grinned, slowly, as to not scare me he held out his hand to me. I blushed and reached out for his hand.

That was the day I met my best friend.

My soulmate.
