Tears in Heaven

I knew that I would die, from the first time I saw his face all those weeks ago. The running, the hiding, it had all been pointless. I had wanted to delay this moment for as long as possible, not wanting to face death, not wanting to face him but he had found me quicker than I could believe. His knife shimmered in the moonlight, the knife which had appeared in every single one of my nightmares since the horrific day.

"It'll be very quick," he whispered, taking a couple of steps towards me, "I promise…"

I had no doubt in his abilities to be a quick and efficient assassin, he'd had more than enough practice with my family alone, and I stood still. Frozen. Barely able to take a few shaky breaths which I knew would be the last I ever took.

This isn't a happy story, it doesn't have a 'happily ever after' if it did, there wouldn't be a story at all, but this is my story. The story of my life and the story of my death.
