Preface:
My entire being screamed at me to turn around and face him, to face all of the pain and love that had been raging inside of me since the moment that I saw them across that cafeteria. It seemed rather ironic that I, who had done nothing but relentlessly pursue both the Cullens and a chance at their way of life for over a year, was suddenly running away from them.
"Bella, wait!" Alice's cry seemed as distant to me as if she had been calling from across a vast ocean, rather than from across a deserted high school parking lot.
"No, no, no, no, no, no, NO!" I began muttering, with the speed and volume of my voice increasing as steadily as that of their pleas until I was practically shrieking. Finally, unable to stand it any longer, I whirled around on my heel, my topaz eyes searing into their shocked and bewildered faces. "What do you want from me?" I whispered. They looked at me confusedly, exchanging glances as if this question had come completely out of left field. "What do you want from me?!" I screamed. That exclamation brought every eye back to my face.
"Bella, pl-"
"No, I can't DO this anymore! I can't let you toss my heart around just because YOU aren't sure what's right for me! What happened to taking my opinions into consideration, don't I have the right to have a say in my own life? Don't I?" With that I turned swiftly and silently away from them, attempting, in utter futility I might add, to gather my scrambled and increasingly incoherent thoughts. "I have to go… just be by myself for awhile, but I'll talk to you later. I'll figure out how to contact you, and we'll sort this out later. Right now, I just have to think." I smiled sadly at the people that I used to depend on more than any others in the world. "I'm sorry," I murmured, brushing past them gently.
As I walked away towards the fence barring the school from the outside world, Edward called to me. "Bella, how will you be able to find us."
I swiveled on my toes to face him, flipping my now-messy hair back behind my shoulder, "Since when has anything ever been able to keep me away from the Cullen family?" I called softly. Chuckling softly to myself, walked back to my car, raising my perfectly-manicured hand without looking back to wave at them.
Well, I thought as I pulled out of the lot, this new town has certainly gotten interesting quickly.
