The Woman
I was standing behind a short distance away from my protégé and partner, Terry McGinnis. He was looking at the Royal Flush Gang being led away in handcuffs. I saw the last member stopped and looked at Terry. She was the one that Terry indirectly told me about.
She was led into the police truck. I took a step closer to Terry. He turned and saw me. "Mr. Wayne, those things I said . . . I'm sorry. This kind of thing ever happen to you?"
I smiled. We turned and started walking. "Let me tell you about a woman named Selina Kyle.
"During my career, I was investigating a jewel robber. I saw it was a woman. I chased her. I was at a charity fund raiser. Being auctioned off. And Selina was the one who bought me. It was soon after that I saw her as Catwoman. Looking at her face, I knew that they were the same woman. And I also knew that I wanted to be with her.
"I remember a dream I had. In it the nightmare was finally over. My parents were alive. And I was engaged to be married to Selina. I wanted that to be real. I wanted to be married to her. But then I woke up from the dream.
"There was one episode; I was at Wayne Enterprise event. I got saved by Alfred. I took the elevator to my office. When I walked in, I saw Catwoman cleaning out my safe. She escaped. I chased her all over town. I cornered her in the zoo. She tried to kiss me. I pushed her away. She looked so hurt. I put her in my arms and kissed her. We heard the sirens. She pushed me away. I smiled and picked up the bag. She looked surprised as I walked away. She didn't realized until she tried to get away that I handcuffed her to the gate. The police arrested her after that. Naturally she didn't stay long. But I still regret to this day letting her get arrested."
We go back to the Cave. "Time for work," Terry says.
"Be careful out there. Be aware of everything, Terry." Terry nods and puts on the mask. He gets in the Batmoible and drives off.
I sit at the computer. Lost in my memories of Selina Kyle. I feel like I've being chasing her all my life. I hear an all too familiar voice from behind me. "Hello, Bruce."
I turn in my chair. And I see her. Selina Kyle standing there. "Selina." I stand up. We both take a step closer to one another. We were standing there looking at one another. I put my hand to her face and gently held. I missed her. I kissed her. She kissed me back. It was the same kiss we shared after I caught her. We parted. Still looking. She's staying. I already deduced that. Again in my life, I have the woman.
