The air rushed into the opened packet with a burst of excitement, hinting at what was to come. The brittle leaves of vervain trembled, hoping that this girl, this young sorcerer, understood what forces she was intending to toy with. The vervain knew the power it held, a power so destructive it could engulf those who had been studying sorcery for years. Few people dared to chance using to herb.

But as the vervain brushed the skin of the girl, it instantly understood that this girl had power. It sensed the girl's fear, and it began to comprehend the air of fading life that filled the room. The vervain relaxed and allowed the girl to toss it into the blazing fire, thus beginning the spell.

The fire roared, turning a vivid amethyst as the girl's fragile voice whispered the words that would call the Greater Powers. The vervain delivered the message to the gods faithfully, and heard the girl's screams as the Great Mother answered.

The vervain began to disintegrate, falling to pieces slowly, as the girl began to slip towards the Underworld. It could feel her struggle to obtain her prize with a determination that was rare in someone so young and inexperienced.

The fire began to blaze higher as the girl began to strain, but the vervain still sensed a wisp of the girl, even as it was falling to pieces. It grasped her relief as she tumbled back into Life, pulling a boy behind her. Even after the vervain had turned to ash, it knew that it had done well.

Note: Confused? So am I. I suppose this is an intense form of personification or something. Maybe it's just magic.
