Lance was fearless.
Okay, that was a lie.
He had one fear.
"LANCE!"
And there it was.
"Open the door! I know you're in here!"
He hesitated in his place.
"Koga told me you were working until seven!"
Damn it, Koga.
"Coming, coming," he finally said, getting up from his desk and starting to open the office door. Clair shoved it forward the moment it was open enough for her to move. He made a slight squeaking noise as it slammed into his toe, trying to hold back a full cry of pain.
"Come on in, Clair," he muttered as she stormed into the office. "To what do I owe the honor of-"
"Stow it," she snapped. "Where is it?"
"Where's what?"
"Don't play dumb!"
"I'm not playing!"
Wait.
"Even you aren't stupid enough to miss this!" Suddenly she was at his desk, tearing through papers and ruining his perfect organization system-
"What are you doing?"
"I'm trying to find the letter!"
"Letter?"
"From Grandfather! He was lecturing me about something or another, I wasn't listening, and he mentioned it the last time he wrote to yo-aha!" She finally shouted, triumphantly holding a sheet of paper in the air and then starting to read it.
"What the hell is this?" she finally shouted, shoving the letter into Lance's face.
"A letter from Grandfather." he said quietly.
"Do you think I'm stupid?"
Don't answer that, Lance, don't you dare.
"This is mundane! This is just 'how are you doing' and 'we have new trainers' and-stop giggling! My impressions aren't funny!"
"S-sorry."
"Where the hell am I in this letter?"
"He just asked if we were still in touch and said we should talk mo-"
"Goddamn it!" Clair screeched, and then hurled the door open and stormed right out of his office.
Lance crouched down and examined the bottom of the door and the now broken door hinge.
Just one fear.
