Riku and Sora at the paopu tree. Riku is sitting on the bent over trunk, while Sora is leaning against it, both of them gazing off into the vast ocean.
"Hey, Sora?"
"Yeah?"
"It used to be the other way around. You know."
"Other way around?"
"Well, you and Kairi used to sit up here, while I stood where you are."
"Oh. Yeah..."
Sensing that Sora doesn't really want to talk, Riku begins teasing him, "It's because you're so short."
The younger boy moves away from the tree, turning around and looking up at his friend. "Hey! What do you mean by that? Huh?" He places his hands on his hips, nearly pouting.
Riku glances down at him, chuckling. "You've always been shorter than me, Sora."
"That's because you're older then me! Besides,"—he gestures with his hands to emphasize his points—"I've grown a lot while I was sleeping. When I woke up, my clothes didn't even fit me anymore!"
"You're right, Sora, you have grown a lot." Smirking, Riku adds, "At least, you've gotten taller. You're still pretty immature and still a kid at heart."
"My heart's gotten me this far, hasn't it?"
The older teen nods, staring off into the ocean again. "Yeah. It sure has."
Sora leans back against the tree again, hands behind his head. "You know... When you looked like Ansem—I mean, Xehanort's Heartless—you were really tall. You were, like, eight feet tall!"
Laughing, Riku corrects him, "Probably closer to seven."
"I dunno—Kairi and I didn't even reach your shoulders. You were almost twice our height." The brunette grins.
Riku shakes his head. "If I were twice your height, I would have been about ten or eleven feet."
"...Why'd you do it, anyway?"
"Do what?"
"Change your form. I mean, I know you did it so you could use the powers of darkness, but why?"
"I did it for you."
Sora stares at him, slightly confused. "For me? But..."
"I thought that if I could defeat Roxas and bring him to DiZ—Ansem—it would help wake you faster. At that point, I would have done anything."
Smiling, Sora looks back towards the ocean. "Hey, Riku?"
The older boy blinks and shifts to face the brunette more. "Yeah?"
Sora hesitates, but says, "You're... a good friend."
Sighing, Riku replies, "You, too, Sora. You, too."
Kairi is making her way towards the bridge that connects the small island with the paopu tree to the larger one. She overhears the last bit of Riku and Sora's conversation and stops, halfway across the bridge.
"You're... a good friend," she can hear Sora say.
A sigh is heard from Riku, along with the response, "You, too, Sora. You, too."
Smiling, Kairi pushes a strand of hair behind her ear. Speaking softly, she murmurs, "Those two... Why don't they just tell each other?" The young girl turns around and walks away, still smiling knowingly to herself.
