What Mara Jade Skywalker Loves Best About Her Husband

Summary: Mara Jade Skywalker loves her husband…here's why.

Disclaimer: I don't own any of these characters who got me through my lonely and quiet childhood…though I would fight Mara for Luke given half the chance….even if they are PERFECT for each other.

When asked in public, by holo-reporters, politicians, or perfect strangers, what she loves best about her husband, Mara generally says something about his patience or care for the galaxy as a whole. Close friends and family know the real answer however:

It's the constant hole in his right sock.

Mara loves that hole, it is just so, so…so Luke. Everyday, the first thing Luke does when he gets home is kiss her. If she's not there, he immediately goes to the second part of the ritual, the taking off of his Jedi boots and throwing them into their bedroom. And there's that little hole.

The galaxy in general sees Luke as perfect, a hero out of legends. Jedi Master Luke Skywalker was once a boy who lived on a backwater planet for most of his life before going to rescue a princess, blow up the first Death Star, start learning to be a Jedi, became a Jedi, defeated the Emperor, and started up the Jedi Order again. Jedi Master Skywalker is never wrong, he never shouts, he is the most wonderful man in the galaxy, a loving husband, brother, friend, and teacher.

The galaxy as a whole has never seen Luke doubled over in laughter, trying to stave off his wife's attacks because he dared laugh at her attempts at cooking.

The galaxy as a whole has never heard Luke raise his voice to yell at Leia for trying to run or interfere in his life. One does not yell at the former Chief of State lightly but he does.

The galaxy as a whole has never seen Luke come back covered in grease and sorrowful after a fight because he took out his anger on repairing his X-Wing or helping Han with the Falcon.

And the galaxy as a whole has never seen Luke all sweaty and grinning after a workout because heaven forbid he look less the perfect.

The galaxy as a whole sees Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, son of Anakin Skywalker and Padme Naberrie, twin brother to Leia Organa Solo, brother in law to Captain Han Solo, the hero of the Battle at Yavin, former Commander of Rouge Squadron, the man who single handedly rebuilt the Jedi Order, a beacon of light when the dark threatens to take over again.

But Mara sees that little hole. She sees Luke. She sees Luke, who is a native of Tatooine, was called Wormie by his friends, a caring, supportive brother to his twin and her family, a cocky pilot, an incredible lover and husband, a man who still gets scared when there's even a whisper that the life he has worked so hard to build may be in danger.

Leia used to bug both Mara and Luke about the hole, saying that Jedi Masters' shouldn't have holes in their socks. Luke always laughed and walked away, knowing that his wife would eventually break down and explain to his twin someday.

Explain that the hole is like the real Luke.

The galaxy as a whole sees the Jedi boots, polished to a gleaming black, ready for action and adventure, the Jedi Master.

The hole is the Luke that Wedge sees, that Corran sees, that Talon, Han, Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin Solo see.

Callista saw the boots.

Mara sees the hole.

That's why Mara Jade Skywalker loves her husband. Because he see's the holes in her socks as well.
