Remembering Susan
Mark was upset. Lexie Grey had called out of work today , the very day he was expecting the research she had promised him. This study on cleft palates was going to get him in the medical journals, and he needed his right hand to be there for him. And where was she? At home probably finishing up the research she had promised would be in his hand first thing this morning.
George spotted Sloan who as usual looked as though he was pissed with the world. He was glad that Lexie had finished the research for Sloan, even though she stayed up all night to do it. He looked at the bulky binder and hoped that Sloan would appreciate all the effort Lexie put into this.
"Dr. Sloan here is that research Lexie did for you. She was sorry she could not present it herself ".
Sloan heaved a sigh of relief at the sight of the binder and graciously thanked O' Malley.
" By the way why is Lexie not at work today O' Malley? Girl problems"?
" No Dr. Sloan. It's the anniversary of her mom's death".
For once Mark Sloan had no response, and George took that as his exit.
Part 2
Lexie could not stop crying. She knew her mom would have hated seeing her like this, but this day was a bitter memory for her and always would be. It did not help that she was estranged from her father, her sister Molly lived miles away, and Meredith was not someone she was close to. All she had today was herself and the memories of time spent with her mother.
Lexie finished flipping through the photo album and decided to pull herself together and make some chamomile tea. Susan had loved chamomile tea and had turned Lexie onto it. She was just about to put the kettle on the stove when a knock at the door startled her. "Who is it"?
"Lexie it's Mark Sloan. Open up."
Lexie looked down at herself and grimaced. She looked a mess but didn't care. Today of all days vanity was not important. What was important was ridding herself of Mark Sloan so she could get back to her tea and memories of her mother.
" Dr. Sloan what brings you here"?
"I wanted to thank you for the research you did. You worked hard on it, and I appreciate that", Sloan with genuine sincerity.
"You're welcome".
"I know today is a difficult day for you Grey. If you need a shoulder to lean on, I'm here for you".
Lexie looked at Sloan and smiled.
"You constantly surprise me Dr. Sloan".
"I like to keep you guessing Grey".
"I was just about to make some chamomile tea. Would you like a cup"?
" Sure". Upon stepping into the apartment, Sloan looked around and burst out laughing.
"Did you furnish this place courtesy of Seattle Grace, Grey"?
"If I told you then I would have to kill you Dr. Sloan", Lexie responded in a serious tone.
" Then I don't want to know".
THE END
