They told him it was bound to happen.
He didn't believe them.
A curse, they said. For generations it had happened, they hastened to add.
He shrugged it off, coincidence he had told them.
They just laughed and told them that he'd find out the hard way.
And he was safe for seven years, nothing happened during his years at Hogwarts, they told him it would but it didn't.
He was beginning to feel very smug about it, here he was, 18 years old, reserve Chaser for Puddlemere United and the curse hadn't been mentioned in years, he was safe, and more importantly, he was right.
His father just looked on, knowingly, because in his mind, it had to happen soon.
It was just another Quidditch practice, or so he thought, he was zooming up the pitch on Anna Harrison's side as she held the Quaffle, her red hair pulled back into a tight ponytail to prevent it whipping around her face.
She passed to him and he threw the Quaffle right through the right hoop. Anna grinned at him and Peter Williams gave him the thumbs up.
Quidditch practice continued on for another hour and then the team trooped back to Puddlemere changing rooms.
He got changed from his Quidditch robes and into some muggle jeans and a t-shirt. He was just exiting the changing rooms, his gear bag swung over his shoulder when he stopped.
She was standing there, laughing with the seeker, Penelope Castle, her red hair free from its ponytail as it flew around her face in the wind. She caught a lock of it with her finger and pulled it behind her left ear. Anna's blue eyes turned to look at him and she smiled.
He returned it, although it may have come off looking worried.
Walking quickly towards the boundaries of the Quidditch pitch, he tried to calm his heart that was beating hard against his chest.
It had bloody well happened alright, and his family had been right.
James Sirius Potter had just fallen under the Potter Curse.
Author's note: Just a short one-shot that popped into my head. Because we all know James wouldn't think the Potter Curse would happen to him.
