The Longest Fall

Joey stood at the top of the cliff, looking down at the raging water below. She could hear the crash of the waves as they fit the sharp rocks below. It was a long fall.

She'd found out two days before that Charlie had slept with Hugo. She should have known she wasn't good enough. After what Robbo had done, she was worthless. This just proved that.

[She'll be happier with Hugo, or any guy really. They can give her what I can't. Everything. She deserves that and so much more.] She thought sadly.

She didn't want to leave Charlie but the officer deserved better. Charlie would just assume that she'd gotten on a trawler for a long haul and never come back. That was what she'd told her brother she planned to do. Five minutes in the house with him had been five minutes to many.

A sob was ripped from Joey's throat.

She'd never be accepted for who she was. She'd never had any friends or even a real family so no one would miss her. The wind whipped her hair around her face as tears stung her eyes.

She made up her mind.

"I love you Charlie." She breathed into the empty air.

Then she allowed her body to freefall through the air.

The last thing she felt was the intense pain of the sharp rocks before her world went black.

She was alone. Just as she always had been

Down on the beach Charlie stopped running and fell to her knees as she saw Joey fall. She couldn't even scream as her throat constricted.

She saw Joey's body hit the rocks and tumble into the water. She could just make out the large amount of blood on the rocks and in the water as Joey's body sunk.

"Joey." She chocked.

She hurriedly got back up and ran to the water where she dived in and swam to Joey's body, praying there was still a chance. She pulled her girlfriends body up and stared at the once exuberant face.

"Joey!" she screamed.

Nothing happened.

Joey's body slid from her grasp as she realized the love of her life was gone. She quickly dived back down, unwilling to lose the one that meant the world to her.

She couldn't let Joey be alone like this.

Upon reaching her she found that she couldn't move Joey's body. A rock had shifted to trap Joey's leg and Charlie was too weak to shift it.

[I won't leave her alone. I've done that to much already.] She decided.

She could feel herself running out of air but couldn't bring herself to care. She didn't bother to resurface when the air ran out, instead breathing in the salt water around her. She could feel the cold, harsh ocean water fill her lungs and started to chock as darkness began to claim her.

She didn't struggle. She just pulled her body closer to her loves.

She'd never leave Joey alone again.

The End.
