Knuckles lazily chilled against the steps of the Angel Island's temple, arms tucked behind his head. Today was just another normal day, the sun shining brightly over the land.
'Finally!' Knuckles thought closing his amethysts orbs and relaxing. 'No enemies, No impending doom... No Sonic... Everything is just perfect-!'
"Get back here you flying jellyfish creep!"
Knuckles' eyes snapped open, he had said to much. Sitting up the Echidna looked in the direction the terrible insult, he sighed before standing up.
"Really?" He asked no one in particular. "Can't I just have one day to myself?!" Letting out a groaned he face-palmed himself then began walking up the stairs to see who the azure colored hedgehog was chasing. Walking away from his comfy spot he blinked at seeing nothing but a black and red blur passing before him.
"Hey stop you filthy fiend!" Sonic yelled at the black and red blur. Unaffected by the situation knuckles calmly reached his arm out and waited for the perfect time before grabbing Sonic's tail roughly in front of him.
"What the hell are you doing here?! And why fuck are you chasing shadow around here for!? Haven't I told you not to come here you good for nothing idiot!" Knuckles was panting and he looked over at sonic who had flinched and cased his emerald eyes aside, ears flat his head.
"Knuckles...you know I don't like cussing and..." He glanced up slightly. "I'm not chasing shadow, he's with silver for the rest of the week..." The red Echidna gave a look of confusion.
"Then who the hell are you chasing?!" Sonic cowered more, pointing at something behind the other. Out of curiosity, Knuckles turned around to see what the blue hedgehog was pointing at.
"... Black Doom..." Knuckles turned back to the frightened hedgehog.
"Who the fuck is Black Doom?!" The master emerald's protector stared at his close comrade, searching the other male's orb for any sign of answers.
In the background the forgotten vile villain unknowingly sneaked closer to the huge chaos emerald with greedy eyes. The 3 eyes stared deeply at the gem, Feeling an unknown power radiating off it. Floating closer to the glossy rock he placed his hand on it's smooth surface, his nails scraping it gently. Two triangular shaped ears perked up at the quiet sound of abuse, he glanced over to the large gem in shock.
"And that is why a numb skull like you shouldn't be running around here and... Are you even listening to me?!"
"shh!" Sonic hissed pointing over to the floating creature who was closing in on the precious crystal. Amethysts eyes narrowed and a growl escaped his lips, nobody touched the master emerald! Anger boiled in the echidna's blood out of pure rage, He raced toward the intruder.
"Get away from the master emerald!" Knuckles barked, sending his fist flying. Black doom dodged the flying fists.
"Knuckles don't!" The young hedgehog screamed at the idiot. The eye on top of Black Doom's forehead looked at sonic with a planing eye. Black Doom raised a dark hand pointing it at Knuckles. The hand started to glow a gruesome color. While the lug was to busy ranting with himself to notice what was going on but, Sonic did. Sonic saw what Black Doom was doing, he ran as fast he as could to push the other the way. Two gloved hands roughly pushed the echidna out of the way. The said creature's eyes widened.
"What the hell?!" He yelled looking to where he was previously standing, Fear took hold. The energy forming around the evil doer's hand grew to a huge sphere, it was aimed straight for his comrade. "Sonic get out of the way!" Yelled the echidna. Sonic turned his head to look over to Knuckles and Black Doom took his chance, and shot the deadly orb at the hero.
Everything went into to slow motion.
Knuckles watched as Sonic was hit by the orb sending him flying. Sonic screamed in pain, and he collided into the now for some reason glowing master emerald. As soon as Sonic touched the rock it disappeared, shock filled the echidna. Knuckles watched in horror as the blue hedgehog slammed his head on the first step and rolled down the rest of the steps. Knuckles turned with rage in his face, but Black Doom was gone. Knuckles growled in rage but quickly turned towards sonic. He ran to Sonic's side, once he got there he started to shake the hedgehog trying to get a response. All he got was a small groan but Sonic did not open his green eyes. Panic entered the protector's mind, Knuckles quickly picked up the pasted out teenager in his arms before running to his home.
"Please be okay Sonic." Knuckles whispered to himself.
