The 100th expedition outside the walls
"Hyah!"
I kicked my horse hard and hoped that it would run faster. The abnormal was fast approaching. It ran on all fours at a terrifying speed.
"Dammit" My friend Akemi yelled. She loaded her flare and fired the red signal into the sky. It was ironically hot for a day like this. The sun was almost mocking us.
"We have to go faster!" I yell across the wind.
"We can't! The horses are already going as fast as they can and our blades are dulled!"
" Our ODM gear?" I say with dying hope.
"Does it look like there is anywhere near us that we could even use it?"
She's right. We are on a green plain that stretches far into the horizon. We are hopeless. We are miles away from the rest of the survey corps; all we have to defend ourselves with are dulled blades and flares.
"That's it!" I yell.
"What?"
" I have a plan, 2 dulled blades are the about the same as one sharp one right?"
"Yes?" she says suspiciously
"You still have a flare left, right?"
" Yeah, here, catch!"
I catch the flare just before it escapes my grasp. I reload my flare gun.
" I'll blind him temporarily then we both hit it where it hurts!"
"WHAT! That's crazy! We might not even hit it with the flare or our blades and if we fail-"
I know just as well I'm grasping at straws, but we either fight or we die. Or as a friend once told me, "If you win you survive. If you lose you die. If you don't fight, you can't win."
I look Akemi right in the eyes. We lock gaze for a couple seconds, then she nods, she understands.
" I trust you."
I nod. I turn round the wind has started to pick up and it distorts everything not in my focus. Unfortunately the titan is my focus. I aim the flare gun right in between his crossed bloodthirsty eyes.
I feel the horse slowing. I am now sensitive to everything. I am alert. I am dangerous, but more importantly, I am ready.
I inhale, and when I do I take aim and when I exhale, I fire. The titan squeals. Everything slows down. Akemi and I jump in synchronisation; we twist and ready our blades our green capes swirling in the wind as we slice through the wind
