I was a little worried when we entered hyperspace. Since her powers have developed Lyta has not been in hyperspace and while hyperspace magnifies a telepaths ability I don't think Lyta was prepared for having her already considerable powers increased tenfold for all I know.
She was extremely disorientated by the transition and was able to perceive several ships in our vicinity. I say our vicinity but this survey vessel could find nothing. I think the term proximity for a telepath is relative. Lyta later explained that she was disoriented by the closeness of the other crew and had to realise that with her telepathic ability strengthened she needed to strengthen her blocks, her walls.
It was on our second day that she was able to explain it like the muscle pairs in the body. One set of muscles raises the arm, the other lowers them. If you train the lifting muscle too much then in exercising its strength you might rip the lesser muscle which counter balances. I am pleased that Lyta is thinking through these things. With great power comes great responsibility and sadly the Universe does not always give us both in equal measure.
Lyta has continued to grow in strength. She has taken to using the weight lifting gym to work out her frustration. As a Narn I can "bench press" some 200lbs as humans call it. Lyta has worked up to 350lbs and is adding weights each day. It is not that Lyta can beat me, Narn females are strong and have never been denied a place in battle like humans. No it was the fact Lyta was sitting in a chair on the other side of the room from the weights that disturbed me.
