Bad Day?
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters.
Will Scarlet sits alone at the bar of the Rabbit Hole, mindlessly drinking his now half-empty bottle of whiskey. Nothing felt right to him anymore. His world was wrong; every day not having much meaning to it. How could it have any meaning in it without her in his life? She's not dead, if that's what you're thinking. She's just gone; and he has no idea how to get her back. Will downs another swig of whiskey, feeling the liquid slide down his throat and he wonders why things like this always happen to him. He had been happy in Wonderland with Anastasia, they had recently gotten married and became the White King and Queen of Wonderland. He was happy, operative word being was. It seems to Will that every time he has something good happen in his life, something equally as bad has to happen to counteract the good. Almost as if he wasn't supposed to be happy. Will sees a person slide onto the barstool beside him out of the corner of his eye.
"Bad day, mate?" Hook asks as he orders himself a round of rum.
"Aye. You could say that," Will says with a sigh, wondering why on Earth the pirate would be talking to him.
Sure, they've gotten past the stage where whenever they met it ended in one of them on the ground with either a bruise or blood on their face, but they aren't exactly the poster people for best friends just yet. Killian downs a shot of rum before turning and looking at the thief next to him.
"You never told me your story, Scarlet," Hook reminds, looking the thief in a sort of challenging way.
"Sorry?" Will asks, not knowing what in the world the pirate is asking.
"You've been in Storybrooke for three months now, and you've never opened yourself up to anyone but Robin. And now…." Hook starts to explain before Will cuts him off.
"And now he's gone. Just like everyone else in my life," Will replies, barely even whispering the last sentence.
"What do you mean, mate?" Hook inquires, wanting to know just how dire the situation Will's in is.
"My sister died when I was twelve. My parents both died before I was seventeen. And I've lost Anastasia more times than I can count," Will barely gets out, tears collecting in his eyes as he admits this.
He's never divulged this secret to anyone before, and it makes him slightly better getting it off of his chest.
"Who's Anastasia, mate?" Hook asks, hoping he didn't cross any type of boundary with Will.
"Does it matter? She's gone," Will comments, which leads Hook to believe he knows what's going on here.
Will lets another tear slip down his face as he sits on the barstool, returning his lips to the rim of the whiskey bottle. Hook takes another swig of his rum before talking with Will some more.
"She's your love, isn't she? And you've been separated from her, right?" Killian points out, his questions sounding more like statements to Will.
"Aye. She's my wife, and my true love. The first time I lost her it was to royalty, the bloody Red King of Wonderland asked her for her hand in marriage. That was the worst mistake of both of our lives, going to Wonderland in the first place," Will starts off explaining to the pirate, just picturing Anastasia and her bright blue eyes and her long, flowing, golden hair trailing down her back.
He misses her, a lot. That's why he drinks more now than he used to. He tries to take his mind off of her with the alcohol, but he still remembers. That's the problem he faces every day. Even when he's so drunk that he sways and falls down flat on his face, the library incident for example, he can't help but think of her. His queen, his Anastasia. That's the reason why he broke into the library in the first place. Will had overheard Henry say something about Belle having copies of all of their stories in books, so he reasoned that there must have been one about him and Anastasia in there as well. He had been half right, at least. When Will had found the copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, he had hoped and prayed that it would be the copy Alice wrote. Unfortunately, the one he picked up was a version by someone named Lewis Carroll that he had no idea who in the many worlds that could be. While he had found the book, he thumbed through it until his eyes found a picture of Anastasia, the former Red Queen and the woman he had recently married. Will found himself yelling at the picture, saying that Anastasia was in no way fat like the book was portraying her to be. But, with that one comment, he had sent himself into a frenzy of tears and found himself making promises in the night air that he would find her again, no matter what it took.
"And then?" Hook prompts, breaking Will out of his trance-like state.
"Right, sorry. Forgot you were there, pirate. Anyway, the second time I lost her was at the hands of a homicidal maniac with a snake stick named Jafar. He shoved my heart back in me chest and stabbed Ana right in front of me. I had to watch her die right there on the ground. I had thought all hope was lost, but I found it shortly after that it wasn't," Will continues, purposely stopping there where he can catch his breath and hopefully turn away from Hook before the pirate notices the fresh tears collecting in his dark brown eyes.
That day in Wonderland had been one of the worst of his life. Will had to watch Anastasia die in front of him after their first kiss with his heart newly restored in his chest. Talk about painful first memories with a restored heart. The scene replays in Will's mind; he sees Ana dying in the hands of Jafar, could see the pained expression on her face and the light running out of her eyes. He snaps out of the horrible memory before continuing his explanation to Hook.
"Anyways, so Jafar ended up changing the laws of magic in order to bring Anastasia back to life for me," Will continues, only to get cut off by Hook.
"Isn't that what ya wanted, mate?" the pirate questions, not seeing where this story goes wrong.
"Aye, it was. But, Jafar, being the corrupted sorcerer he is, made it come with a happy consequence as he called it. He did bring Ana back to life, but when she came back, she didn't love me. She loved Jafar. He had put some sort of spell over her to make Ana believe she wasn't in love with me, but him. When Jafar left, I did the only thing I could think of, pulling Anastasia's arm through the magic force field that contained me and kissed her. The spell over her broke, because our true love can break any spell it seems. But, there was a price," Will swallows uneasily as he continues with his narrative to Hook.
Will shifts uncomfortably on the barstool, causing Hook to clap his good hand over the other man's shoulder.
"As it always seems to be with magic. Ya never know what price it'll have," Hook agrees before downing another swig of rum.
"Don't I know it. Anyway, so Alice and Cyrus…. Don't ask," Will says, noticing the pirate's lost expression.
Hook shrugs his shoulders in response before Will continues his life story.
"They found a way to stop Jafar and release the other two genies and myself from the three genies' curse. Yes, I was a genie for a couple of days. Can't say I enjoyed it though. Anyway, so all of Jafar's magic was undone, causing Ana to die again. My heart broke in two another time. But, then Cyrus brought back some Water from the Well of Wonders and it brought her back to life. We got married not too long after that, and were living quite happily in Wonderland, being the White King and Queen. But, as is customary for my life, everything fell apart. We were asleep in our royal bedchambers when it happened. Some purple smoke came under the bedroom door and enveloped around me and carried me back here since I was a part of the first bloody curse. Ana had woken up just before I was completely taken away. I didn't even get the chance to say goodbye," Will sniffs at the last part, not caring that tears are running down his cheeks.
He knew someone would see him crying eventually. His heart is still in pain from losing her, even if it's been just three months, which should seem like nothing compared to the first 28 year curse. But, then again, he had been heartless for the duration of that curse and had no intention of getting back with Anastasia.
"I'm sorry, mate. That must be hard on you. I can't imagine what it would feel like if I lost my Swan like you lost your Ana," Hook sympathizes, placing his hand on Will's shoulder.
This time, Will doesn't shrug it off like he did outside of the library. In fact, he considers this gesture the start of their friendship.
"Now I don't know if I'll ever see her again," Will whispers before returning back to the now almost empty bottle of whiskey.
"You'll find a way back to her, mate," Hook encourages, causing Will to turn his head and look at the pirate.
"How can you be so sure?" Will asks, a skeptical look on his handsome face.
"Because I'm gonna help you," Hook smiles before ordering the two of them another round of shots.
Author's Note: Just something I thought I would write before Season 4B returns tomorrow night. I am way too excited for words; I could hardly wait ten weeks for OUAT to come back. Anyway, I hope you liked this and please comment with what you thought; those are always appreciated. I thought that Hook would question Will like this; just because I want the two of them to become friends on the show soooooooo badly! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed, and I hope all of you like the new episode of OUAT tomorrow night. :)
P.S. I want to point out that Will and Anastasia are my OTP and hope Season 4B explains why Will's not in Wonderland with her or why she's not in Storybrooke with her. If you didn't watch Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, look up some videos of Will and Anastasia to clear the main points Will made in this up for you.
