Last one in the Polygamy Project series: David Rossi! Enjoy!
Up until now, David Rossi had been trailing JJ and Will in his own vehicle on their way back to their respective homes, but when the LaMontagne family car pulled off at the appropriate exit and he kept going straight, he couldn't help but smile as he compared their experiences over the past two weeks with his own. He knew for a fact that JJ had struggled mightily with being civil to Sydney Corbin, and Will hadn't been any better. Thankfully, Dave's stay with his two living ex-wives had been easier.
It hadn't actually been very hard at all. Living with Laura again had been the most stressful part, but even they had managed to remain courteous to one another the entire time. Heck, they'd gotten along better back in that duplex than they had in the last two whole years of their marriage.
It was life with Maureen that had surprised Dave. He had not expected to enjoy taking part in the polygamy project – Garcia had needed to pull out an official "you owe me, and even if you don't, I can still destroy your credit history at will" for him to even participate. However, he had found that he'd genuinely enjoyed the time he spent with his second ex-wife. She had always been "Mori" to him and so she had become again in the past two weeks in the midst of friendly banter and chaste kisses given as jokes of sorts, a light mockery of the marriage that they were supposed to pretend to have. Maybe those kisses were even a jab at the marriage that they'd actually had once upon a time.
In any case, Dave had walked out of the duplex for the last time that morning feeling pleased with the fact that, if anything, this project had helped him renew a friendship that he now realized he might just have devalued a little too much over the years. He snorted, thinking that maybe that was why she had walked out on him all those years ago. He'd deserved it, anyhow; he knew that now.
Mori didn't take marriage vows lightly, and he had all but destroyed her before she'd left and served him divorce papers. God bless her, though, she was a very forgiving person, and better in a lot of ways than he could ever aspire to be. There was a part of him that might just still love her, Dave could admit to himself, but this time he was going to do the right thing by her.
His devotion to his job would never allow him to be there for a wife like he'd like to be, and he'd long resigned himself to that fact. With that in mind, he was going to forget the idea of rekindling anything romantic with Maureen Rossi. He had to for her sake. He had to do the right thing this time. And he would. He could do that. He wasn't willing to let her drop out of his social circle completely for a second time, but he could keep things platonic between them. He could be friendly, but not overly so, and they could stay friends – just friends. He could do that, and he would do it. They could keep things friendly between them, and that would be enough for him.
It had to be, for her sake.
And thus we come to the end of the series. It ended on a much sadder note than I had planned, but I just go where my muse takes me. Thanks for sticking with me through the series; hopefully you enjoyed it! Reviews make my day, if you feel like leaving me one! Thanks!:)
