I'm not really bashing Sasuke( I don't really consider it bashing unless the writer hates that character, and Sasuke is one of my favorite Naruto characters). It's just my opinion on why Sasuke left Konoha(well, one of the reasons.)

Sasuke thinks he is strong enough to kill Itachi.
And he would tell you that, if you asked him.
There is no doubt as he says it. In his opinion, Sasuke is strong. He is not what he dreads. He is Not Weak.
That is was he dreads. More than anything else. For if he is Weak then he cannot complete The Task, which is to kill his brother. If he cannot kill Itachi, then he has no purpose. He is nothing. He is nothing if he is not strong.
So Sasuke thinks he is strong. And doesn't let doubt shake that thought.
That is the difference between Naruto and Sasuke.
Sasuke thinks he is strong.
Naruto knows he is strong.
He knows he has strength that will carry him far, though how far he cannot say. But that strength will take him as far as it can, and when it runs out, Naruto will become stronger until he is where he needs to be.
He has no time for doubt.
