Summary: Alternate ending to "Female Trouble." Max and Logan talk at the end of the episode when she comes to his apartment. R&R, please?
She followed him into his apartment, and watched as he put away the thing that would have taken him away forever.
"So... Logan. I gotta ask you something. I know it's gonna piss you off. But I gotta ask." He turned around and looked at her questioningly.
"Shoot," he said.
"Would you have done it?" she asked, with pain, fear, and sadness tainting her perfect face.
"Done what?" he asked, turning away and pretending to look through some papers, knowing full well what the answer would be. She paused for a few seconds, as if if she didn't say it, it might not have happened in actuality.
"Killed yourself." Now she mostly expressed fear. He looked at her with one of his irate, icy stares she knew all to well. But, luckily, he didn't convey his anger with his voice.
"Yes," he said, simply, looking her full in the face. Her fear was now reflected in his eyes, as they watched each other. It didn't last long, though, because her face took on the icy, angry stare.
"Did you ever stop to think there'd be people who'd miss you?" she asked, raising her voice so she was half-yelling. There was a very long, somewhat awkward pause until Logan broke the silence.
"I'm sorry, Max." he said with a steady voice, keeping eye contact. More silence. Her gaze softened as her lips curved into a slight smile.
"And don't forget about the widows, small children, and lost animals. Now what would they do without the great Eyes Only to watch out for them?" she asked, trying to throw some humor into the situation to ease the emotional overload. She smiled, but her eyes stayed despondent. He smiled back, and each saw their whole self mirrored in the other.
