Newborn
She was so tiny and beautiful. How could her family have abandoned her like this? I sighed. I knew that I had come here to save her. I had seen that vision often enough in the past 5 years. I had also seen the other yellow eyed ones, but I couldn't leave her to search for them. All I could do for her was put the same visions in her head. I wouldn't be able to delay much longer. The Hunter was coming.
The Hunter sniffed the air. He could tell that there was another of his kind here, and something else. The most delicious scent he had ever smelled. He must have it. She seemed to be surrounded by many humans, but no matter. He would find a way to separate her from the other one. He always did. Humans were tasty, but hardly a challenge. The real challenge was in taking them away from another vampire. This wouldn't even be much of a challenge. The other one was old. He began planning his next move.
He was almost here. I didn't have much time. I carried my darling one out of her cell. She didn't seem able to differentiate between the dark of her cell and the darkness of night. I carried her out of range of his senses and laid her gently on the ground. " My dear, it's time. Remember the yellow eyed ones. Find them and all will be well." She turned towards me, her eyes blank as she looked forward in time. Suddenly, she gasped and focused on me. I knew what she was seeing. I had seen it many times over the years. I bent over her, before she could speak and bit wrists and neck quickly. Her eyes went blank and she contorted in agony. I stayed with her long enough to make sure that the transformation had changed the scent of her blood, then I left my many times great granddaughter. It was time to face the Hunter.
The Hunter was ecstatic. The old one actually thought that he could hide her. This was better than he had expected. He moved noiselessly through the asylum, searching for her scent. He finally found a tiny, dark cell where her scent was most powerful. He began tracking her from there. Soon, he would be tasting that sweet blood. His mouth filled with venom at the thought. He smelled her protector's scent mingled with hers and smiled. He was hoping that the old one had a few tricks up his sleeve to make this more interesting.
He tracked the scent for 5 miles, then suddenly it disappeared. He circled around, but all he could sense was vampire. Wait, the vampire scent was much stronger than previously. He swore softly to himself. The old one had changed her. Her sweet scent was just a memory now. Well, at least her "savior" was going to pay for this.
He tracked him easily. "Hello", he greeted him affably, "Care to explain why you denied me my little treat? You obviously weren't going to take advantage of it."
The old one hesitated, then said, "I don't think you would understand."
The Hunter smiled, "I suppose you're right."
The Hunter studied the tiny female writhing on the ground. The old one hadn't even resisted, maybe a newborn would be more of a challenge. Her change was almost completed and she would awake ravenous. Of course, newborns were strong, but easily defeated if you knew what you were doing. He sighed again and turned away. What a waste of time this had been, no delicious blood, and no challenge fight. Someday, he would find a worthy challenge, until then he would continue the hunt. He didn't look back.
The newborn opened her ruby eyes.
