Draco Malfoy looked across his table in Potions. In front of him, with her
back turned was Hermione Granger. Her sienna curls hung lazily down her
back and her black robe moved fluidly around her as she added ingredients
to her restorative potion.
Draco couldn't take his eyes off of her. He had something important to tell her and the way she stirred her potion was nearly hypnotic. Hermione turned around, fully aware of someone staring at her back and glared at Draco. He gave a tiny smirk back, unsure what to say.
Beside him, Crabbe and Goyle were grunting to each other about what ingredient to add next. If Draco was going to ask her that important question, now would be the time, everyone else was busy.
Hermione turned back around to her Potion, shaking her head at Draco's strange behavior. He had lost his chance. He sighed in frustration and looked down into his cauldron, where the purple goop seemed to ridicule him for being such a wuss.
"That's it!" he thought to himself as he made the decision. "Ill just do it ----."
He gathered all of his courage and stepped around his table and stood next to Hermione. She arched an eyebrow and looked at him, her chocolate colored eyes shining in the dim torch lit dungeon.
"What is it, Malfoy?" she said, not missing a single stir as she spoke.
"Umm - well ---." Draco fumbled.
Hermione glared at him.
"I was wondering if ---- your hair is naturally that bushy or do you charm it to be so hideous?" he said coolly.
The Slytherins around them burst into laughter and Draco smirked maliciously at her.
Hermione narrowed her eyes at him. "That's what you wanted to ask me?"
"No, actually I was wondering if you're finished with the asphodel, the rest of the class would like to use it too." He quipped.
Hermione shook her head and thrusted the glass jar of asphodel into his chest. Draco went back to his table, glancing around at the Slytherins who were trying to stifle their giggles. He couldn't' help but smile to himself. Sometimes chances were worth taking.
