A/N: This is just a very short little story in response to a prompt of the day over on the Hogwarts Online II forum.

The prompt I had to use was "teddy bear".

It's my first story set in the world of Harry Potter and therefore, my first SS/HG story.

I don't have an editor, so constructive criticism is welcomed, but no flames please.

With that said, I hope you like it!

A Lucky Charm

He watched as Minerva McGonagall stood from her seat in the Great Hall. It was that time again; the Sorting of the new first years of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

He glanced over to his wife of twelve years. Hermione Granger, the Potions Mistress, gazed back and smiled.

How could she be so calm? Their firstborn, their daughter, was beginning her schooling and was moments away from being Sorted into the House that would be her home for the next seven years.

He clutched the item that he held underneath the desk. It had been well concealed. No one, not even his wife, knew he had it. It was his daughter's favourite teddy bear, the one that he had given to her on the day she was born. Its clothing had been charmed because neither he nor Hermione could come to an agreement about which colour it should be. So, in the end, Hermione flicked her wand and the left half of its jumper was Slytherin green and the right was Gryffindor red.

Soon, he heard Minerva's Scottish brogue shout, "Sophia Haley Snape."

His eyes snapped back to the group of children and fell upon the little girl with jet black curls and wonderfully amber coloured eyes. She was excited and her grin was infectious. Both Minerva and Hermione beamed as she sat down onto the stool and the Sorting hat was soon placed onto her head.

"Courage, cunning, intelligence and loyalty, you have it all, my dear. You will do wondrous things during your time at Hogwarts, but there is only one House for you..."

His fingers dug into the fur of the teddy bear. This was it. He and Hermione's playful bet would soon have a winner. Now, was she a Slytherin, or was she a Gryffindor?

"...RAVENCLAW!"

Hermione cheered and Severus merely smirked. Oh well... at least she wasn't a Gryffindor.
