"I've practiced this for hours, gone round and round
And now I think that I've got it all down..."
It had been four weeks since the accident with Dave had happened as Mike quietly made his way into the house he shared with his fiancée, Katherine Mayfair. When he got inside, he saw her silhouette on the couch with a glass of something. It was late and he was expecting her to be asleep, but what he wasn't expecting soon answered his question as to why she was up at this hour.
"What are you doing up this late?" He moved to turn on the lights and he saw she had been drinking, but not enough to make her drunk.
"I've been thinking." She just stared at the dark red liquid in her glass.
"About?" He put his things down on the table.
"See, I can't seem to get this image out of my mind." She took a drink and spoke with courage. "What image?" He looked over to her, starting to get concerned.
"The images of you making out with your ex-wife after you swore to me you were over her." Katherine finally looked up at him from her spot on the couch. Her eyes pierced into his like icy daggers.
"Katherine, I can explain that. It was nothing. Just an our son didn't die thing." Mike walked over to her while trying to explain himself.
"I'm sure that was it. Not because you wanted to or because you still love her. Just because you were happy." Katherine placed her glass on the table and poured herself another glass, emptying the bottle.
"Exactly," Mike walked a little closer to her. He didn't want to get too close because he could tell she was truly pissed off. He suddenly found himself dodging the wine bottle she just threw at him.
"Don't you dare lie to me! I know you love her, I know you wanted to do it and I know you're a sorry excuse for a man." Katherine picked up her glass violently and brushed past Mike, going into the kitchen. Mike followed her, "Katherine, I'm not lying. I do love you." He stopped once he was almost in the kitchen.
"The sad thing is, I believe you, but I also believe that you love her too." Katherine flips harshly through her recipes, something she does when she's angry. Mike walks to her and places his hands on top of hers, "I do love her. Is that what you want to hear?" Mike tells her with a little more crudely than he intended.
"Get out." Katherine snatches her hands back and moves away from him slightly.
"You wanted the truth. Now that I'm giving it to you, you're kicking me out?" Mike asks with irony in his voice.
"Yes, and now that I have it I want you out." Katherine moves away from him more so she doesn't do something she would regret.
"Come on, you're being unfair."
"No, what's unfair is that you took six months of my life from me."
"Fine, if that's how you want to play this then let's play. I'll leave, but don't expect me to come back when you get all lonely and realize you've made a huge mistake."
Katherine begins crying as Mike storms out, "It's over for good."
"The loving look that's left your eyes
But I know in time we'll find this was no surprise…"
