With the window open a cool breeze came into the room, the blue silk curtains danced as the wind blew inward, a few opened books had their pages turn, and the blue rose on the small end table rocked its way to the other side of the clear glass vase. Jill Valentine turned, changing her position to have her back face the open window. Jill was asleep at an early hour in the night, early for her at least. Since the tragic events which had occurred to her not too long ago, Jill Valentine had insomnia, the earliest for her to go to bed was about two thirty in the morning. Even then, Jill was not a fan of sleeping as she had once been earlier in her life. She no longer had dreams, she was plagued with nightmares which reflected her past horrors, everything that she had faced before; everything during the Mansion Incident as well as the destruction of Raccoon City.
Everything seemed so clear to her, crystal clear. Jill could still hear the screams of her dying comrades at the mansion, she could still hear the crying screams she heard in the streets of Raccoon City during the viral outbreak, she could still hear the moans and groans of the virus carriers, the screeches of all the creatures that Umbrella had created, and Jill could still vividly hear the sound of the Nemesis roaring out the name of her former unit with the police force in Raccoon City.
"Sssstttaaaarrrsss."
Jill's eyes suddenly shot open as her body jumped up from her couch, she found herself panting and she felt her body covered in a cold sweat. She wiped off the sweat from her forehead and then closed her eyes and began to take slow breaths. This was all normal for Jill, she was used to waking up just like this, although sometimes it would be worse; her waking up and screaming at the top of her lungs. Jill was convinced she had a shit life compared to what she had before the Mansion Incident. Nothing made sense anymore. She moved her feet over and then set them down on the floor, the blue carpet felt nice against her bare feet. She looked out the window at the star filled sky and sighed to herself, wonder where her old friends were, and if they were still alive.
Jill reached over and picked up the small bottle of Uspirim, which carried a small Umbrella logo on the bottle, Jill popped in two pills into her mouth and then swallowed them. She looked at the bottle, now empty, and she starred into the Umbrella logo at the corner of the bottle and in a small fit of anger she hurled the bottle across the room, accidentally hitting a picture and knocking it down to the floor. Jill perked up and then walked over to the fallen picture which had fallen face down. She slowly and carefully picked up the picture and turned it over. The picture showed Jill at a restaurant, which was across the street from the Raccoon City Police Department, in the picture Jill was smiling as she sat by her old partner Chris Redfield who was also smiling as he had sat there with his arm around Jill.
Jill smiled at the picture, she could remember that day so well, her old friend Barry Burton had taken that picture of them just a few weeks before the cannibal murders had started up around Raccoon City, which had lead to the Mansion Incident, and her downfall. A tear landed on the cracked picture frame, Jill held the picture close to her chest, closed her eyes, and then allowed herself to cry.
