It was the day after thanksgiving on black Friday. Alex had to go to work. Melman & Alex was carpooling because Alex's van needed a tune up so Melman gave him a ride. As they were getting out of the care Alex complain to Melman. Now I know why they call it Black Friday. I have to work today. Melman was getting out of the car. Sorry I had to page you Alex. We have a lot of patient's & were short on staff. Alex thank Melman again. By the way, Thanks for picking me up. They walk into the door & Alex saw a new person at the desk. Who's that? Melman answered to Alex. Oh that's are new receptionist she stutters. Melman whisper's to Alex. Not to be confused with King George the fifth. The receptionist look up. G-G-Good M-M-Morning M-M-M-Melman. Good morning answered Alex turned back. By the way, We have a speech therapist. Alex looked at Melman. How can she talk on the phone without stuttering? Melman answered. She have a helper. She just types up appointments on the computer. They clocked in & picked up today's patient's charts. Melman started to talk. Alex? Are you ready for this? There is a patient in the brain injury ward that needs to be nursed because one of our brain injury ward is out sick so you need to cover for her. Alex didn't argue so he grabbed the patient's chart & went on the 8th floor.
He went into the coma's patient's room. I was a 7 year old cub was in a car accident. Alex looked at her pupils with the exam. light until he herd her breathing & fighting for her tube. Alex paged Melman to take her off of life support. Alex took a urine sample from her drainage bag. Melman ordered the catheter to be left in the bladder. Melman examined the cub The cubs eye's open. Melman explained to Alex the she was out of the coma but cannot talk. Alex started to talk. Her name was Lisa. Lisa? can you her us? Lisa slowly lift up her thumb to get them a thumbs up. Alex gave her a bed bath & spoon fed her because she lost her arm function. Alex comfort her by reading to her. Melman came into her room. Alex ask Melman. Melman? Where's her parent's? Melman answered. On the way taking her to the Hospital, they had a terrible car accident because the ice on the road. she survive the crash but they died. Alex asks another question. Was she in the back seat? Melman answered. Yes she was but not in a car seat. The Mother was not the bright about child safety. Melman has an idea. Alex how would you like to be teaching child safety? You have 4 kids & you have the experience. Alex rubbed his paw to his chin. I'll be glad to.
Alex was teaching child safety in the car that night. he explains about car seats & how it will save your child from injuries. After class was over, The family was waiting in the lobby. Before Alex shift was over, he went back to the cubs room on the brain injury ward & empty her drainage bag, spoon fed her dinner & tucked her in for the night. I'll be back tomorrow. He said to the cub. Alex clocked out & got his coat on & went home with the family.
