Prologue

"Go Sarafina!" Asante exclaimed as the lions cornered him. It was over for him, but the sisters still had a chance. "Gasira is already out! Save your cub and leave!"

Sarafina ran, ignoring the tormenting thoughts of elder lion that had willingly helped her escape when he screamed and cried out in agony. There was only one thing that kept her going forward and not back to help free him.

She could feel the cub kicking in her stomach as if were uncomfortable by the speed her mother was travelling in. So many disturbing thoughts left Sarafina's mind when she acknowledged that the same hardship her sister and herself had experienced would occur to her precious Nala. She had to leave; there was no other choice. And she had sacrificed the life of shaman lion with a heart of gold to achieve safety of her daughter.

It won't be to waste, she reassured herself. Nala will have a way better life than I did. Nothing is more important.

"Gasira!" She called out when she reached the border of the Greenland Pride and spotted the familiar white fur that would belong to no other than her sister.

"Sara," Gasira breathed out in relief. The tan lioness was running towards her and she met her halfway. "I would have waited for you! I'm so sorry. But, I-I just couldn't—"

"Loose another one," her sister finished, sending a sorrowful glance. "She was your life, Sira. I'd be paranoid, too."

Gasira still felt guilty. "But you're my sister."

"And she's your cub, and an unborn one. If I were you, wouldn't you rather have me care for my baby?"

"Of course," she nodded. At the start of motherhood, she realized that nothing would have been more important than the safety of her child. It was terrifying when she saw the life she had made decease into a decaying dead animal.

Sarafina sighed when they began walking away. They were finally moving out of the past after so many years of trying.

"So, where to?" She heard her sister ask. "It's not paradise until we have a place to live."

"Pride Rock. Asante said that's the closest to paradise as you can get."

"You think they'll let us stay?"

"Only one way to find out."
