B'Elanna's Dream

B'Elanna's Dream

By Tenel Jade

His eyes are bluer than the sky. His heart is sweeter than sugar. His feelings are purer than the purest silk. His hopes and dreams are bright.

But by day he wears the mask. His face is that of a man I do not recognize. His eyes are though they are shut. His smile is casual. When we are alone, it is pure and simple. Intimate.

This man has many faces. But only one is the man I love.

The quiet, simple, gentle man who emerges late at night. The man that I have entrusted my life to. The man that I will devote everything to.

Don't hide from others, Tom Paris. You do not hide from me, and I would like to think your life is better for it. I know mine is.

Please. They all want to be your friend. But you even shy from Harry Kim. He only knows the person who walks in your body. He knows nothing of the person under the mask. Let him in.

The captain. She loves you like a son. You are her pride and joy. But still, you show her only the mask.

Chakotay, Tuvok, Seven, the Doctor. They will all welcome you. I know you are scared. But please. Let go of your anger.

Tom Paris is a wonderful, caring, sensitive person. Sharing of him will bring you greater love, and the family here on Voyager, will grow even tighter.

Why?

You owe it to me. I have loved you, and I have helped you, and I have held you. I know you are only frightened. But you hurt me, by being unwilling to share the gem that is your soul, with the people who love you, unconditionally. Do it for me.

You owe it to Captain Janeway. She took you in, when a prison was your only home, and gave you a spark of hope to tend, when there was none before. Do it for her.

You owe it to Harry Kim. He has looked upon you like a brother, followed your every move, and worshipped the ground you stand on. To him, you might as well be a god. Do it for him.

You owe it to Seven. She likes you, and she needs you as a friend. This is not easy, living with humans for the first time. Unconditional friendships have not been easy for her to find.

Think about that one. The captain treats her like a daughter, always wanting more from her. Always pressing. Harry Kim wants nothing, but in the crush he had on her, he leaves her more puzzled, with one more thing to figure out. Do it for her.

You owe it to your friends, and you owe it to the crew. They have loved you, supported you, and helped you through the best and worst times in your life. Do it for them.

But most of all, do it for you. Do it for all the faces of Lieutenant Thomas Eugene Paris. Let yourself be free of the lies you live, and other's lives will be immeasurably better for it.

I love you, Tom.
