"Jake"

A slight and very distracted "Hmmm" was the only response that Diane got.

"Jake, what's wrong?" They were in the middle of another session and it was clear that Jake was not focused on what he was supposed to be doing. The digital sign that Jake was trying to manipulate was definitely flashing, but it was what it said that worried Diane.

Jake finally turned towards her. "Nothing's wrong."

"Yeah, sure." Diane said completely unconvinced. "Jake look at what you put on the sign."

Jake seemed to finally come out of his self-imposed trance and looked at the digital sign which had now stopped flashing. It read "Idiot Stupid Alone"

Diane repeated her question, her voice filled with concern. "What's wrong Jake?"

"It's Sara"

"Oh" Diane shifted the clipboard in her hand slightly nervously. "Do you want to talk about it?" She walked over to the cabinet that Jake was leaning against and stood next to him.

Jake didn't answer her question, but started telling her what happened. "I talked to Sara last night."

"It didn't go good I'm guessing" Diane motioned towards the sign.

"No, it didn't" Jake answered. "She slapped me and stormed away."

"Jake! What happened?" She turned to be face to face with him as he spoke.

"Sara wanted to know if I wanted to be with her or not. If I did, then why do I keep running off? She said she wanted the truth."

"Oh, Jake" Diane said softly.

"So, I told her the truth." Jake waved his hands around as he spoke. "You don't have to worry about any government secrets getting out. She thought I was making the whole thing up and was just trying to come up with a story of why I didn't want to be with her."

Diane didn't say anything, she could tell Jake hadn't finished with what he was going to say. She just looked on as her heart broke for her friend.

"I always thought being a spy would be so cool and glamorous. But, everyone I know is leaving. They shipped away my best friend since kindergarten to I have no idea where because he might find out. Then when I try to tell Sara the truth she doesn't believe me and she leaves me too."

"I'm still here."

Jake quit waving his arm around at the soft response and looked over at Diane for what seemed to be the first time. He saw how concerned she was for him. "You're always here."

Diane smiled slightly. "Yeah, I'm always here Jake."

"You listen to me whine and complain and talk about my girl problems and you're still here."

"I'm you're doctor, Jake. I have to be here to do something with the stuff you fry."

Jake smiled, letting out a small chuckle.

"I'm also you're friend. That's what friends do."

"Just friends?"

Jake watched as red spread across Diane's face as she blushed. "Well, that depends on you."

"Well, how about pizza and boggle?"

"I'd like that."
