001: beginnings
--
This is the beginning of something catastrophic.
One is no better than a toy to the other, and yet-there's real passion, hot enough to melt even the iciest of hearts. Hot enough to make him feel as if he actually had a heart. Hot enough to ease her aching heart.
He takes a dark brown lock between his fingers and twists it-savoring the lovely feeling of silk on his skin. He whispers pretty lies in her ear-lies she gladly takes for truths.
'Because,' she thinks, 'All great truths are really just lies.'
Oh, those lies. They warm her at night, spill from his mouth and into her heart, and keep her alive. Lies are all she really has to live for, anyway.
She knows he doesn't really love her, it's a sad truth she chooses to ignore when she gets an empty kiss in return for her fanatical one, when she presses her hand to his chest and feels no heartbeat.
He knows she knows, and yet-he continues to play with, knowing what will happen in the end. How broken she'll be. And a strange sensation wells up in his chest, as he presses her tighter to his being. A strange sensation-something akin to sadness, if he could feel sadness.
Something tells him that when he walks away, he better not look back. Something tells him that her eyes-her eyes like fire-will make him falter as he leaves, because she has that kind of power over him.
The power to make him stop in his tracks and turn back, like a lovesick puppy.
He grimaces into her hair and sighs, knowing the terrible pain this was going to cause her.
She does too.
But she still smiles up at him and gently kisses his lips.
"Axel-" she whispers, her words intertwining with the darkness. "Axel, I love you." and she nestles her head into his chest and tries to ignore the lack of rhythm that comes with a heartbeat.
He strokes her cheek, and looks into her eyes.
Her eyes, so full of love, he almost laughed. He kisses her back, letting her feel the emptiness that was his soul, letting her get a good taste before she got in to deep. Before her heart was crushed, and scattered to the wind, like the other hearts before hers.
'But why worry about this now?' he thought, 'We've only just begun.'
This is the beginning of something beautiful.

…well, it's not very good, and very short, but I'm feeling very frazzled and uninspired. Hopefully, the next one will be better.
