Lanie sighed at the mountain of paperwork currently adorning her desk. The last few case heavy weeks had left little time to deal with it. Figuring she'd better get it done sooner rather than later she'd set the whole evening aside for its completion. Already regretting what was to come she pulled the first of many stacks towards her.

"Doctor Parish!" Lanie jumped at her name being virtually shouted into what was a near silent room.

Looking up Lanie saw the stern face of Captain 'Iron' Gates looking back at her. Lanie straightened in her chair, opening her mouth to address the other women but Gates resumed speaking before she could even offer a simple greeting.

"Doctor Parish I assume you are aware of the relationship protocols set in place for NYPD officers?"

Keeping her face neutral Lanie silently regarded the Captain in front of her confused, she couldn't be referring to Javier could she? As far as anyone else was concerned that had ended months ago not that the relationship had been against regs in the first place. Ensuring her voice remained as neutral as her face Lanie answered with a simple "Yes Captain."

"I would also assume you know how unprofessional it would be for members of the NYPD to be betting whilst on duty especially if the bet concerns other members of their precinct."

Now more than sure of what had caused the Captains impromptu visit to the morgue, Lanie did not allow her trepidation to show on her face as she considered her options. Opting to see where the conversation may lead she replied simply once again "Yes I imagine it would be Captain."

"And I'm sure you realize how unprofessional it would be for me to take part in any wagers like these" She continued stern expression fixed in place, as she retrieved an envelope from within her coat and slid it across the desk to the ME. "If such wagers were going on I'd be honour bound to stay out of them even if I thought, say three months would be the right amount of time to result in the conclusion of the bet."

Picking up the envelope in front of her Lanie fixed a serious expression on her face to match that of the woman in front of her "Of course Captain I understand completely."

"Well then, in that case I'll leave you to your work." Gates spun around and made her way to the exit. "Oh and Doctor Parish? Engaged in nine."

Lanie looked up from the envelope in her hand but the Captain had already left. Opening the envelope and thumbing through the noted inside Lanie smirked Captain 'Iron' Gates indeed.
