I'll admit it...I'm one of the few who watched the season finale and thought that, as frustrating as it was, it's probably a good thing that it happened the way it did. There will DEFINITELY be a third season to watch, with plenty of opportunities for Beckett to kick Castle's booty over the error of his ways...and now that she knows how she really feels for him, it'll really add to the character interactions even more. Was it painful to watch? Yes. But maybe if we hope and pray enough, Castle won't totally screw up his chances. :) Here's my idea of what happens as Castle leaves the station with Gina...

Walking from the precinct, Rick loaded Gina's deceptively small suitcase in the trunk of his car, grimacing slightly at its weight and realizing that she'd probably packed half of her apartment in it. Some things never changed. Shifting his attention to the blond in the front seat of the vehicle, he watched as she twisted the rearview mirror to check her makeup. Sighing to himself, he thought, It's going to be a long summer.

The book would get written. He'd be sure of it. Writing was his passion, his love. Inviting Gina had simply been a reflex, as well as a way to get her off of his case about his deadline on the horizon. Alexis and his mother weren't going to be there, so it left him at crunch time to have someone come along. And he and Gina had really had a good talk. Well, Gina had talked. He had done more from the listening side of things. He didn't even remember exactly what possessed him to invite her, but the deed was done. But she was with him now, and would be spending the summer with him. Heaven help him.

Pulling into traffic, Rick began the trek to the Hamptons. There was a beach chair and an umbrella drink calling his name, and he just hoped the juices would flow enough to get a few chapters knocked out on the book. Anything to get his mind off the idea of Kate with Demming at their precious little beach house. Together. Alone...

"Rick, I just realized I forgot to get a copy of People," Gina said. "Do you mind stopping at that newsstand?"

Absently, Rick nodded, pulling the car over to the curb. He sat waiting for her to get out and get her magazine, his mind wandering. He snapped back to reality when he heard Gina clear her throat.

"Well, you don't expect me to get it myself, do you?" Gina asked innocently.

Shrugging his shoulders, he set the parking brake and got out of the car, heading for the vendor on the corner. Picking up the requested magazine, he browsed over the headlines while waiting for the customer in front of him to finish up. He was only caught slightly off guard when his cell phone buzzed to notify him of a text message. Flipping his phone open, he was surprised to see the message was from Lanie. Even more surprising was the message itself…

You're a damn fool.

Now what's that supposed to mean? he thought. But before he could reply, the customer ahead of him finished his transaction. Rick closed the phone, returned it to his pocket and stepped up to pay for People. He was beginning to agree with Lanie's comment already, even if he didn't fully understand her reason for sending it.
