"I don't really get it," Ash said to Ellie while they were on their way to a pokemon contest in Eterna City, "Every time .we travel to a new city for Dawn's competition, there's a fanfare in honor of some titled the 'Mysterious and Magnificent El.' Who are they and what did they do to get such praise?"

"El is… a complex person to describe," Ellie explained.

"El is just the adopted name for the person one of our legends revolve around," Dawn continued.

"El has no gender, no age, and no pokemon," Ellie filled in.

"So then what did 'El' do to deserve such praise?" Ash asked again.

"El is from the Arceus creation myth." Dawn replied.

"Arceus?" asked Ash.

"The pokemon which created all other pokemon and the world we live in. He is the god Pokemon, and he created three other gods to rule the universe."

"Palkia, the ruler of Space, Dialga, the ruler of time, and Giratina, the ruler of the distortion world. The legend states that Arceus couldn't rule all of the world, so he created Palkia to take care of space, Dialga to take care of time, and Giratina, to take care of the world were no space or time exist. No one knows why the distortion world was created, but there have been many legends and even a prophecy involving Giratina," Ellie explained.

"If you want to get technical," Brock interrupted, "there is a prophecy involving all legendary pokemon."

"True, but that prophecy leads into who El is, and why the person receives fanfare."

"What's the prophecy?" asked Ash.

"The prophecy states," started Ellie, "One day Giratina will be uncontrollable, and will leave the distortion world to rule our world. The one without a name will challenge Giratina for the right to rule our world. Giratina will lose, but it will take the nameless one with it, resulting in the only human in existence being forced to live in the distortion world."

"How did that have anything to do with the legend?" asked Dawn confused, she had never heard the full prophecy before after all.

"The legend," Brock said, "is that El has already been born and has already given up their life to save our world. The fanfare is a thank you to El for allowing us to go on with whatever we choose to."

The rest of the day went by in relative silence.
