Lucian v. Lucien
First it had been his niece, then one of his best friends, and soon his leader.
A demon was making its way through people's bodies, but it would soon end with Morrigan. She took Lucian aside and asked him to do something he knew he could never do. However, the moment she asked him to do it…to kill her, so that the demon would be defeated, HE took over.
Lucian hated HIM. He hated the way HE didn't care, didn't feel, and the way HE had no desire to do either; but Lucian couldn't stop Lucien from taking over. Whenever HE took over, Lucian was held hostage in his own mind, not able to control his body or what he said. It was like watching a movie; staring at a screen and listening through speakers, able to yell at those moving about in the frame, but unable to do anything- no matter how badly you wanted to.
"Don't let her do it! Don't you dare let her do it!" Lucian screamed.
Of course, Lucien didn't listen. He agreed to go through with Morrigan's plan. He agreed to let her sacrifice herself.
"No! Stop! You can't let her! STOP HER!"
Morrigan was thanking Lucien and turning to go back…to carry out her plan...to die.
"LUCIEN! DON'T LET HER DIE!" Lucian yelled, tears running down his face. "We need her! She is like a mother to us…to me! I love her, damn it!"
Lucien sighed. He stopped Morrigan and she turned.
"He loves you….the other Lucian. You're like a mother to him." Lucien said.
Morrigan smiled bitterly, a single tear slid down her cheek. "I love him too."
Lucian beat his hands against the screen that allowed him to see as she turned and continued back to the sauna- a lamb to the slaughter.
He could do nothing as Lucien went back with her. He saw Vice pass out, releasing the demon, and he watched as Morrigan accepted the demon into herself. He watched as she clutched her head in pain and her eyes started to change. He yelled at the others at the sauna trying to break them out of their dazed and confused state, tried to get them to do something, anything! His efforts were in vain. They couldn't hear him.
"Please, don't do this, Lucien." Lucian begged as he heard the whine of the sword Lucien drew -his own sword. "Please, we can find another way."
Lucien raised the weapon, "I am so sorry." His expression was stone set, but the sorry was his equivalent to tears.
Lucian didn't want to watch, but he couldn't tear his horrified gaze away as Lucien held Morrigan by the shoulder, steadying her, and stabbed her through the heart. Sobs wracked his body as the color of her eyes return to normal and her life left her.
Lucian fell to his knees, his head in his hands. "No…no, no no, no…why? We…we could have done something else…anything but this."
There may have been another way, but time was something we didn't have.
Lucian looked up, Lucien was knelt before him.
Don't feel guilty about this. She asked to die and I granted her wish so that you wouldn't have to. Her blood is on my hands.
"Your hands and my hands are the same!" Lucian swung at Lucien, but his fist passed right through him.
But our minds are not. I will take the guilt for this. There is nothing you could have done.
Lucien's image faded, leaving Lucian alone.
"But it doesn't work like that." Lucian whispered. "I will always feel like I could have done something."
Lucien didn't respond to this, nor did he respond to the many hate filled things and curses Lucian screamed and spit at him.
After a couple moments, Lucian's breathing steadied and he slowly unfurled his closed hands.
"I will do something." He stood up, tears still running freely down his face, his voice hoarse. "I will find a way to bring her back."
