Of Love, Roses, and Impending Doom
He never thought that love could make you do such crazy things. Yet, here he was, risking the universe in order to save a certain human female. Time Lords thought of extreme attachment to any one thing or person to be unwise. The Doctor was always taught that love was for other beings; for him, the presence of love was a human sensation.
And thus, he had separated himself from it.
Besides, what would be the ultimate benefit of loving someone? Of having a friend at all? They'd never be able to stay with him forever; never live as long as he would. He could only carry a few good memories of friends around like almost-forgotten pocket change, and an empty void in his forever-longing hearts for the rest of his seemingly endless life. They'd all just leave. Maybe settle down in a boring old house in a boring old suburb, possibly to never even remember him, save a passing thought. They'd be happy, but he'd forever stay lonely.
But one day, he met a girl.
A human girl; a pink-and-yellow Rose in the garden of earth, who helped to fill the void of loneliness in is very soul.
She held his hand, and he held hers; and they stared danger straight in the face.
They saved the universe time and time again, neither one of them wished that it would end; though he knew it would have to, all too soon.
He knew that nothing could last forever, not the earth, not Rose Tyler, not even himself. Not even love.
But for now, he'd savor in enjoyment every moment he spent saving the entirety of the universe with this wonderful woman, who had the light of all the stars and the whole of existence in her gaze.
For now, while it lasted, they would enjoy every second of the time they were together, saving the world or not, because of the impending doom of separation looming over them like a dark cloud in a clear sky. They were now residing in the calm before a storm.
And for now, they would spend as much time as they could together. Set apart more time to just relax and eat chips, maybe go to the cinema or visit Mickey and Rose's mum. It was strange and beautiful, their relationship. They could just sit for hours, passing the time away talking over tea, or simply sit in each other's presence and not speak a word. Either way, it was enough to just be together.
And they were happy and filled with joy; for this was The Doctor in the TARDIS with Rose Tyler, just as it should be.
